Wow a brand new >$25,000 truck at 17.
When I got my license my mom bought me a $1,500 10 year old 2wd 4-cyl S-10. And boy was I grateful just to get that. Everything else after that was paid for by me.
    Hopefully you earned that truck...

When I bought my truck in August I told my 6-year old son that when he turns 16 I'll give him that one and I'll get a new one. I think he's counting the days till that happens.

My 23-year-old son bought and paid for his own vehicles...even after having a permanent disability from being a passenger in a car 2 days into his senior year in high school. I only advised him on safety, reliability, etc. He refuses to apply for disability and works 2 jobs to pay for all of lifes needs. And he has Multiple Sclerosis! There are many lessons in life for the OP to learn. I just hope he has the chance and is allowed to fail on occasion so that he will understand himself, life, and grow from them.
Good luck with the new truck!

The age is more relative to mental maturaty rather than physical age per say...its all relative...

Alot of todays youth are products of terrible parenting. Parenting isnt about what material things you can give to your kids but more of what you can do, teach, or provide for your kids to help them succeed in life. Buying your kid a new truck and sending them to college and paying there way through everything doesnt do shit for them. Look how many idiots with degrees our country has. Its why our economy is shit right now. Look how many educated morons got ok jobs and bought houses they couldnt afford because everything was handed to them except survival skills. Kids grow up not knowing what its like to have to work for something. They finance fancy cars, fancy houses, run up credit card debt, all because there parents gave themm everything so they feel they deserve everything. Then cant afford it and lose it then fuck it up for the rest of us...

Um, I would argue that people who make poor financial decisions are not educated, generally speaking.

I would also argue that having children is a very poor financial decision in the United States today.

True, but don't the institutions (ahem, megabanks) bear some responsibility for extending that credit to people obviously purchasing above their means in the first place?

A quick example: I bought a new TV and home theater this past July. I'm not going to get into specifics of my income, but I had the money for it ($1800ish) set aside. I could've bought the whole thing cash, but the store had a 12 months 0% promo going on. I have steady employment in a well-paying field and a perfect credit history. Whoever is underwriting the store's financing approved me for a $6500 line of credit. That is absolutely absurd. The ONLY reason a bank would offer that is to hook someone to payments on an account they could never close. I intend to close the account when I'm done letting my home theater money sit in savings garnering interest.

Yes, most people in America today are complete retards when it comes to managing money. But that doesn't absolve the too-big-to-fails from their predatory practices.
