Good to hear! Hey, are you still having any issues from 1 to 2? Mine is doing the exact same thing you described, 1 to 2 is horrible.

Having originally posted this thread at less than 500 miles, I am now at 5,000 and I think that it has gotten smoother. Hopefully it continues to get better as some of you have said. I am looking at doing a tranny fluid change to a synthetic (anyone have any advice?)

I have a scheduled appointment with the dealer tomorrow. Wish me luck!

The first thing I did to my 6 speed is switched tranny and t-case fluid to Redline. The notchiness gets smoother over time. Also lots have positive to say about getting short shift kit.

It took me about 800 miles to figure out the 6 speed. I just had to realize my 2013 TRD OR 6 speed is not my old rx-7. Take it a little slower and its been doing better for me. Wait for the rpm to drop to the level of the next gear and now I'm golden. I'm not perfect on it yet but ill get there.

Does anyone know what Toyota uses for their synthetics?

I have a 2013 taco 2.7 4 cylinder with 5 speed. Every morning my clutch pedal squeaks for like the first 10-15 minutes of driving. It's super annoying and sometimes I feel like as I'm going into 1st gear that my slave has a air leak or something and the car jumps. Not sure if that's just me or its actually happening. I only have a little over 12k on my truck and this squeaky noise bothers the crap out of me. Anyone else have this?

I test drove a 2009 manual once. At the time I was drving a 2006 Subaru STI.

I was having a hard time shifting gears smoothly. The salesman in the passenger seat told me to shift at higher RPM's than what I was doing. I guess I was shifting too early at too low of an RPM.

It made a big difference shifting at the higher RPM range...

    Just a thought!

You cannot push this transmission into first gear while moving in this truck. It has a lockout style shifter. That whine you hear is the synchro working overtime to match the gears up. This puts extra wear on the synchro. Come to a crawl or stop before shifting into first gear.

The pedal creak has been there since the first gen's and the immediate patch has been to lube it with some lithium grease. Talk to your dealer and they should do this for you and the gas door as well as that will rust. They may replace the unit, but since the design is similar it will return as it did with mine. I just keep the spray can in my access cab lockers. It takes 5 seconds to do and lasts for a month or so. Good luck with it.

I never put the car into 1st while moving. This happens when the car is at a stop. It feels like a the clutch was disengaged too fast, even though I'm still holding the clutch partially. And also I understand the lubrication but why does it only squeak in the morning and stop after the car is warmed. If I sit in my car every morning and pump the clutch approx 20 times, the squeaky noise doesn't happen when driving.

And the gears are half the size and weight.

If you are referring to the catch point of this clutch then yeah we all would agree. There is no gradual grabbing it just catches at some point and if you don't have enough gas it will jerk and hop a lot. There was a TSB out for clutch issues so check with your dealer if you just aren't happy or things don't seem to feel right.

For me the creek will happen loudly on very hot days in the summer or very cold days in the winter. After the car gets up to temp it tends to go away. Some of the parts are plastic and they make that noise when they dry out and expand/contract to a certain point to contact/rub the metal parts.

I joined the site specifically to ask you this: Is the truck in your picture a 6 speed? I just traded in a 2013 trd sport access cab for a 2014 trd off road because I disliked the auto trans and needed the 4 doors to fit a car seat in back... I wanted a double cab long bed MANUAL trans but I was told by the dealership that the manual transmission was not available in that body configuration, regardless of trim package.

Yep, that is correct. DCLB Off-Road (manual) was what I really wanted, but I was willing to settle for a DCLB Sport (manual) if it was available... I imagine it has something to do with that new carrier bearing set up they came out with a couple years ago that caused all those driveline vibration problems during acceleration.

That could be true as well I suppose. It's unfortunate, but at least I'm only losing one foot of bed. I imagine it's going to be the last year for this body style, so I have to get it while the getting is good!
