    2014 TRD off road
I just bought a new 2014 TRD off road with the 6-speed. I put 1500 miles on it so far, and i noticed a very annoying clunking or thumping when letting off and on the throttle in predominantly the higher gears, especially in 6th. in 6th, there is a very prominent "thud" when cruising and letting on and off. I test drove another new taco and it does the same thing.
The service manager told me they all have this issue, its an engineering thing due to making a softer quieter ride. He told me this was "axle wrap" which im not sure of at highway speeds. he stated there were two reason for the thud. One was the axle wrap and the other was the soft trans mount with the metal on metal bump stop thing being bottomed out under the load of the higher gears. He directed me to this website, as he says there are mods people have done or aftermarket parts to correct this thudding.... by the way, everything was checked and re-torqued on the lift to make sure.
So my questions are: do any newer 6 speed owners feel this?
Is it really axle wrap at highway speeds?
Will aftermarket leaf springs fix the thud?
If so what brands would be recommended?
Will an aftermarket heavier duty trans mount without the metal bumpstop help, are they available? what brands?
I just traded a gas guzzling tundra in for this, and if i trade again, i WILL have negative equity. If i cant fix this, i believe i am done with toyotas. i had a first gen taco which was a gem. Im not happy with this uncomfortable clunking and i at least hope theres an aftermarket fix for it,

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
I've always heard this to be related to driveshaft slip joints. While I don't doubt for a minute that these gum band leaf springs could wrap up, especially on a stick.

I have a 2013 6 spd and have noticed this issue also, predominantly at highway speeds, up into 6 or even down into 5 (say going up a long hill) when it was new.

Naturally you want to take your foot off the clutch relatively quickly at higher speeds and not ride the clutch, then "thud".

I attribute to the somewhat vague sense of where the clutch pedal is disengaged as you lift up on the pedal. I found it took a bit of finesse to find that sweet spot. Rarely happens anymore, so again I think it just takes some getting used to.

I thought I had read on here somewhere that the motors in these trucks are designed to turn something off when you let off the gas to save fuel. I know that must motors when coasting stop letting gas into the engine, but it seems like it was something different then that. I say that because my 14 does the same thing when I'm cruising down the highway and let off the gas and then push it again it kinda of lags or hesitates for a split second. Could be something different then what your talking about but I don't see how you could have axle wrap running down the interstate, but maybe you can lol

Ive heard about the shutting off of injectors when coasting thing. if you let the gas off long enough, you feel a slight bit more "engine braking" feeling, thats usually when it thuds the most.
But still, the feeling is in the floorboard, like there is a kind of play... when i lay underneath, the trans mount rubber is soft enough that i can push the trans/transfer up and just about hit the trans mount metal "stopper"....... point being, hes right about things down there bring soft to appeal to people wanting a plush ride, i guess.
Anyways, i imagine putting an aftermarket, very solid trans mount that doesnt have that stupid stopper, could help, as i cant imaging that stopper not bumping under any load, since i could make it touch with my own arm power..... but i cant seem to find any heavy duty aftermarket mounts?????
As for the axle wrap.... maybe , possibly... i would imagine going down there and tightening everything up could possibly make that thump go away... i just now need to get some input on maybe some good sources to get some mounts and maybe springs. at this point its worth it, upgrading can only make the truck better anyways, even if it fails to solve the problem, cant go wrong with more solid quality mounts and springs. Im kinda stuck with the truck now, i like it otherwise.

Upgrading the truck is never a bad idea, but it kinda sucks that u have to do that to get rid of an annoying "thud" on a brand-new $30k truck. Dealer calling it "normal" is BS too. I owned an '03 Silverado for over 10 years, and for the first 6-7 years, it had an annoying "thud" everytime u came to a complete stop & start. Chevy dealers all called it "normal driveline play", well, after installing a couple of cheap spring clamps on the rear leaf springs(idea from a "Titan" forum to limit axle wrap), no more "clunk" ever! I'd start with the rear springs(improve or replace) and go from there...
