Just curious, why would the Op regret adding a dealer installed or aftermarket hitch?

I've owned and driven trucks with OEM and Aftermarket hitches, it doesn't tow any different with the OEM. Sometimes better towing equipment is available aftermarket, than available with the OEM.

As an example, you could probably install a better aux cooler, with an electric fan and T-stat, or on the fly switch.

Why so angry? Also why would it matter if the dealer installed the tow package? They would be the exact same parts the factory would install.

I am not opposed to getting a dealer installed hitch as long as it's the whole package, the way it was supposed to be ordered to begin with.

+483 - do not settle for the "tow hitch receiver"

I am shocked that it's optional, the configurator does not actually ALLOW you to order one without it, someone would have had to SPECIFICALLY tried to order it without, if you goto the "build my toyota" part on their website you can't order a sport or OR or anything above SR5 without the tow package, and there is NO reason to NOT get it

You know what's crazier, on my way home today I was behind a shiny new Ram 2500/ Cummins Diesel at a light. Was admiring the truck, which looked to be a pretty loaded model SLT, 4x4 and whatever else comes with that. As it pulled away from the light, I noticed there was no receiver under the rear bumper  I immediately thought, who the heck buys a 3/4 ton truck, sans the receiver hitch?

I know many people buy these things to haul 5th wheel trailers, but what if you want to move a boat, small utility trailer etc..

For 2015 it's only included with the cheaper of the two TRD Sport packages. If you buy the more expensive package with JBL and navigation it's not included! Go figure that out!

I realize the configurator is DIFFERENT for every state - but my configurator doesn't have that option if I select ANY level of sport or OR it's on there.

TRD Sport Extra Value Package with options | $5,985

that is JBL with NAV and the first line item is

V6 Tow Package: 26 Class-IV towing receiver hitch, transmission (automatic transmission only) cooler, engine oil cooler, 130-amp alternator, heavy-duty battery, 7-pin connector with converter and Trailer-Sway Control (TSC) 25 [TO]

I see no way to NOT get the Tow package - if you select SR you can select tow hitch under the accessories...

Thats why I've been so confused about seeing pros without the tow package because, at least in the gulf states configurator you can't even configure one without it.. I know a dealer can specifically configure one without but they literally have to manually deselect the tow package because it's included with sport and offroad

Well after the dealer researched how this could have happened. They have agreed to install the whole trailer pkg. at the dealership. Since it wasn't included in the price of the truck we agreed on a price of $350 installed. Which was half the price of the factory installed one. This I was pretty happy with but I tried to get them to just give it to me for their mistake. But it will all be covered under the extended warranty (8yr. 125,000 mile) bumper to bumper I bought.
