Well guys, I took my truck to the dealership this morning and went on a quick road test with the Shop Foreman (37 years of Toyota experience)... Anyway, he immediately identified the buzzing in the steering wheel once we got up to speed. He told me that the buzzing sensation is coming from a worn needle bearing in the front differential (which i'm sure many of you have seen or heard about before).

The tech stated that this issue is VERY COMMON on lifted Tacoma 4x4's.

He also stated that he's read lots of information on the East Coast Gear Supply clamshell bushing that replaces the needle bearing on the drivers side of the front differential and suggested that if I wanted to completely eliminate the buzzing sensation, that bushing would be the best way to do it.

Ultimately, this guy said that although the buzzing sensation is annoying, it will NOT cause any catastrophic failures and that if it was his personal truck, he would "just keep driving it and have fun with it"

I will eventually replace the needle bearing with the clam shell bushing but for now I guess ill just deal with the buzzing and ENJOY my truck!!

I just got the east coast bushing done and it was definitely worth it. Toyota wouldn't even recognize the noise when I took them for multiple rides but even if you're lucky enough to get it fixed by them, they would likely replace it with the same shitty needle bearing. I had it done at a local alignment shop and they already had the bushing in stock because it's so common. Get it done and you'll enjoy your truck for what it should be!
