that's what I did bought a certified used 2nd GEN, but what glitters isn't always gold, they have certain ticks that will surface just like the 3rd GEN trucks, it all depends on how well u handle the problems when they arise and get them fixed. anyway you cut it Toyota makes the best mid sized truck on the market, if that's not the truth then get a Colorado or the new Ranger and see how well they hold up and hold their value.

I've had two Toy trucks that leaked. End of third winter, the 08 Tundra started leaking bad, I sold it soon after. Bought a 17 Tacoma ext cab last year that leaks. Haven't been able to find the source of the leak so Toy can't fix it. Might sell it and buy the double cab long bed, which is what I initially wanted. No big deal.. Just surprised I've two toy trucks back to back with leaking issues.

Yes - after searching the issue the 3rd brake light casket failing or installed incorrectly is the most common. I had determined that's what leaked in the tundra. It may have been from the truck being parked for a month cover by two feet of snow on a slight grade. The roof filled with water and when the snow melted it gushed out the first time I drove it. It's not the 3rd brake light casket on the Tacoma. It leaks from the passenger rear door, top of the fixed window. It's either the window seal or the top of the door, a seam or something. I've been dealing with the same dealer for over 30 years and they always give me great service. Neither myself or the dealer can make it leak which makes it difficult to repair. Haven't been able to find any similar cases searching online to help determine the source. Something else I noticed is water runs out of the driver door from the bottom when I open it after it rains. The passenger door doesn't do it. Is that common?

Has it done this since new? Are you not getting mold and mildew?
A friends truck got so bad with mold /mildew that you couldnt tolerate to get it it anymore .
When the district guy came to down to evaluate the truck he didn't want to touch anything in the truck and washed his hands repeatedly after doing so. Gave friend new truck orders on the spot after months of being jerked around.
My sister had to abandon a house because of black mold . The mold tests were off the chart and it explained why they were all getting sick .

The water must be getting in around the window seal. It rained a couple of days ago and when I opened all 4 doors water came out those holes on the bottom. I guess that's just the way it is, but I wish it didn't. Be sure to keep those holes cleaned out an open.

I'm mainly curious how you installed the male end in the carpet. Did you hammer right on the floor or slip in some backing material? Also, standard length snap rivets (fabric store kind)?

I've done a bunch of snaps on riding jackets and pants. Every one turns out different. Haha!

I do like your approach best because it doesn't leave a sharp edge / point that could start rust from rubbing around.

My HHR had a leak in that same spot. It's meant to drain, it's a drain hole. But there's a flap of plastic underneath the body that should protect it from getting into the cabin. No idea why they have a hole in the firewall with a flap of plastic. Anyway, the plastic is shit and the glue even more shit.

I cut out a piece from a lid to one of those big Tupperware boxes that you put Christmas stuff in for storing in your garage. Glued it in place and never had a leak.

Didn't think to fix the moldy carpet...

Here's a video. Should have been a recall, YouTube is full of videos on this for the HHR.

    https://youtu.be/_0T-RmiDC9A

Now I need to check my Tacoma...
