Not certain but I think they just don't want the extra expense of carpet.

The added expense of carpet replacement has easily been exceeded by the expense of bad press they have allowed this issue to create.

Make sure that letter doesn’t sound “heated.” Just state the facts and your concerns. I’d have someone with a cooler head edit your letter if need be, just in case.

Maybe actually read the law before you start making demands. I guarantee *they* know the law better than you.

Also, this dealer / service manager doesn't have a dog in the fight. He's going to get paid by Toyota regardless. Your job should be keeping him on your side and getting an ally against Toyota. Maybe he knows this is a shit deal and he's intentionally keeping your truck for as long as possible so you *can* lemon it.

At this point, pressing them to release the truck works against you. If you want to lemon it, let them keep it. Pick it up exactly when they tell you its ready. Then take it back if its not fixed. Keep your documentation and follow up any verbal convos with writing or sending yourself emails.

As everyone else in this thread is saying: get the "factory defect" line in writing. Press for mold remediation and press on the health angle.

It sounds like you are ham-handedly sending "NEED NEW TRUCK RAaAAA!" emails. Be smarter than them.

Keep the receipts for the rental van and truck/trailer you needed. This might prove valuable later on if it gets super nasty.

Sounds to me like he is going to send a letter to Toyota corporate, not the dealer.

It's to corporate. Not threats . Just stating concerns which include the nagative impact to resale value of the truck and mold or mildew . Also lost time which has cost time and money.

I got a lot of water in my truck through the AC vent. The plastic cowling had some broken tabs, and the rubber wasn't tight against the windshield. So water ran down the windshield and goes right into that AC vent. Passenger side footwell had a pretty good puddle in it. Can see the gap in the seal.

I have noticed a similar gap in that same area on my truck but thankfully no leaks.

I doubt that’s causing the leak. That ‘seal’ isn’t really a seal. It’s easily rolled simply by touching it. That cowl isn’t sealed either. Where the windshield wipers pass through has a large opening and there are vents through it. I would suspect your AC drain line is clogged and leaking water. Passenger side floor is exactly where the water goes when that line is clogged.

Under the cowl is a large open area for fresh air intake. That could be leaking if the seal isn't right.

How has no one commented on that drip?? Looks like someone replaced the windshield, if you're now having leaks because they didn't seal it properly then it explains why toyota won't cover it.

Did you take it back to the original dealer you bought it from?? They should know if the windshield was replaced before the vehicle was sold, its not something that requires disclosure but given the problems you're having now I'd look into that...

It's a known issue. On the passenger side is the ac intake. Look at the OPs pic. If that cowl isn't tight against the windshield, water will run right down the glass into the AC intake, then down onto the floor. Horrible design carried over from the 2nd gen. You better hope that seal is really a seal.

I noticed that too. That's exactly what happened with my truck. But it wasn't the mastic seal, The guys that replaced the windshield broke some of the tabs on that cowl, and then water got past the seal, and into the AC vent. That's probably what is happening to the OP. Should have them check all the tabs on the cowl to see if any are broken or bent.
