I've seen that trick of turning the tpms sensor backwards but it makes the sensor prone to breaking of when installing or removing the tire. Since the truck is new most dealerships would be willing to take your sensors and give you the different angle aluminum sensors if your buying the truck and new rims from them. No reason to keep the steel lugs. The aluminum lugs with the shoulder have a tapper built into them that allows you to use them to secure your steel spare wheel.

The dealership called me to schedule switching out my stock steel wheels and install my Dark satin alloys and I brought up my concerns. The lady said don’t worry about the lugs and sensors that’s up to us. She said yes I’ll need new lugs but the sensors work...guess time will tell.

Trust me on this, the sensors from steel to aluminum wheels do not work. They are different part numbers and are built different because of the thick aluminum wheel.

I trust this 100%, however I’ll see what they say on Wednesday. If they don’t act like they are going to do it 100% correct I’m not sure what I’ll do. It’s a Rick Hendrick dealership so at least I have the reputation going for me. What scares me is they sold me the brand new wheels and installation for $500. I can’t see sensors being included for this price!

Yes but your sensors are brand new. Tell them to trade them out for the aluminum sensors as part of the deal. Also remind them when they go to put the new sensors in to write down the ID numbers of the sensors BEFORE they install them in the wheels. The ID numbers are printed on the sensors. Makes programming them for the truck a five minute job.

I think if they were painted black they would look much better. I’ve been a huge fan of the Dark satin alloys since I saw them.

Personally...I dig 'em gray. At the very least if they were mine....I would keep them as a winter set with some Duratracs on them

I’m in NC so I don’t need an extra set. I’m between keeping them, giving them to the dealer, or trying to sell them. I dont think I could get $50 for them though!

Yeah....that rim has been around since late '03. There are so many of them out there that they aren't worth much. That's why I would keep them. Alloy wheels are overrated

Here having my wheels installed. The service writer looked at me like I was insane when I asked about TPMs and different lug nuts. He said “my guy does this all day I’m sure it will be right.”

I got 2018 SR back in December and bought Sport wheels with lugs but no TPMS sensors. My dealer said that they would have to order new sensors and I will have to pay for them. Took them to Discount Tire and they were able to transfer the original TPMS sensors to the Sport wheels. No issues whatsoever.

He's just going to flip the steel sensors the other way then. If you get a flat it'll break the sensors or if you get new tires and the tech doesn't know the sensors are flipped the other way he could break them taking the tires off.

If you look at the steelie sensors and alloy wheel sensors you'll see what I'm talking about. Good news is, sensors are cheap as long as you get them from anywhere else but dealership.

The steel wheel lug nuts have a conical seat while the alloy ones have a flat seat. Very different and alloy ones will work at first but eventually loosen if they don't sheer off your lug studs first.

I’m hoping a Hendrick dealership is a little more professional than this. If they don’t use the correct lugs at minimum I’ll not be a happy customer!
