    Hey Tacoma World

I need some help with OVTune for my 2021 Off-road V6 3.0l Tacoma.

First I asked for the 93 tune but seems OV Tune does not offer anything but Stock Tunes now
    Is that 87, 91, or 93? Presume it's 87.

Second, I cannot get the flash to complete successfully, the software goes through the steps and ends abruptly and says "Complete Unsuccessful" Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

2 things. I find it helpful to first press Identify just to make sure that it's reading the ECU version that is a sanity check to make sure the truck is set to Ignition On.

It sounds like you may not have received the tune pack yet. Check your spam folder if you think you should have by now.

I have the Stock Tune in my folders and open it when prompted. Yes, I have the push start button and use the two push to turn the power on without starting the engine.

So all that will do is revert your ECU back it's stock settings. The Tune Pack is provided to you in a separate download.

You might want to blur you name and System ID?

The Stock tune is Octane Learning, just like you Taco is now. Also, all 2.0 Tunes are OL also.

Mystery solved. Matt sent me the wrong file. He sent 04C30 for a MT and not 04C20 for an AT whch is the transmission I have. No wonder the flash would not work. Asked him to send the correct file.

    Very cool.

Don't say 04C30 too loud. There's a few folks looking for that TP. :D

Would appreciate input for those familiar with this... I'm not well versed on this tech!

What aspects you want input on? In all honesty, there isn't much difference between any of the 3rd Gen model years on the driveline side.

Well, really I need a OVTUne MT 101...
1.- So I could get a tune now for the '21 manual?
2.- I understand there are a variety of tunes for every occasion - how does one choose a specific tune among the many? (if this is in fact the case). I would seek to be tuned by someone with the software. I would have no inclination to explore building my own... so I would not buy the whole software...
3.- I understand that there are not many differences in the driveline - does one need a specific tune for a model year / vehicle OEM ECU program?, or are they all the same and work accross different model years?

Sending hoping you are still on...

    - Yes, I believe there tunes available for the 21 Manual.

    - The tune pack will have various configurations and you pick the one that most closely aligns with your setup and desired performance. More often then not though you will want to opt for the performance based tune, SFOB, which has more throttle response and a steeper throttle curve.

    - The tune packs are tied to a specific ECU. You could have multiple ECUs per model year. It's highly suggested you update your ECU to the most up to date and order the tune pack for that ECU ID. That way you are somewhat future proof'd from someone mistakenly updating your ECU because it is outdated.

1: I am checking on that with the OP. It is the first time that I am hearing about a possible 2021 MT (04C30) Tune Pack in the wild.

2: Most of the MTs folks, me included, are generally happiest on the SFOB tune. The MT performance tune. For the MTs, there is only Base and SFOB. We don't have to worry about tires sizes and gearing as those are AT shifting and speed limiter features. Most folks that offer flashing will give you time for a test drive and possibly a reflash. So, you would have time to test the tune.

3: For whatever reason, Toyota has dropped more than one ECU calibration for each model year. Some of it might relate to TSS-P happening in 2018 and the 2020 MY refresh. But, it seems at all Tacos get the same driveline parts. For example from everything that is posted around here, the latest TSB for my 2017 (TSB-0043-20) drove very similarly to what folks are reporting for the latest 2019 / 2020 TSB-0092-20. It seems that Toyota is updating calibrations to replicate what is rolling off the line. So while the name might be different, the tunes work the same regardless.

I also drove a late production 2020 MT (04B91) and it felt like my TSB tune.
