New 2021 Tacoma should have 2 keys with lock remotes?

So, I purchased a new 2021 Tacoma 3 weeks ago. After deal was made, sales man said the detailers were going to wash my new truck before I took it home. So after awhile, salesman told me the detailer had misplaced the 2nd key, and they took over 20 minutes looking for it. Finally he gives me the spare key, put it my pocket and got out of there after my 5 hour purchase/waiting time. When I got home, just gave the spare key to my wife.
We did not notice until today when she was going to drive it, the 2nd key was just door key without the lock & alarm remotes.
So my question is did you receive "2" keys with remotes? Something tells me they never found the correct key, and just made me a cheap spare, instead of making a new remote key and pass the $100+ loss onto me. I just do not want to go back to the dealer and make an ass of myself.
Every other new vehicle I'v purchased in the past 20 years did come with 2 remotes....any one?

They should've told him, or left that note there for the customer like it says.

Weird because my sister just bought a 4runner 1.5 weeks ago and got 2 remotes, and it literally just arrived too.

 

Check the glove box lol when we bought a sienna this summer both the fobs were hidden pretty well in the glove box

 

Thank you for showing me that notice tag. Even still though, they must have lost the 2nd key because it is not even a "Toyota" key.....it's made from an after market copy blank.

 

I have a 2021 trd off-road, purchased late January. I received TWO remote key and a spare of one actual key

 

I picked up my new Tacoma in December. It came with 2 remote "H" keys.

My wife's 2011 Corolla came with 2 remote keys plus a "valet" key.

There's a difference between a "valet" key and a "mechanical" key. The "valet" key has a chip that allows you to drive the car. It doesn't have the remote functions, and it won't open the trunk or the glove box. (Although you can open the trunk with a cable release from inside the car, so that's a moot point.)

A "mechanical" key doesn't have a chip, so you can't use to drive the vehicle. All it does is open the doors.

I had a couple of mechanical keys made, in case I get locked out of the truck. Then I did an experiment. I held the regular remote key next to the ignition, so that its chip would be "read" by the system. Then I tried to start the truck using the mechanical key. The engine would momentarily turn over, but it wouldn't stay running. Conclusion: a chip key must actually be in the ignition for the engine to run. You can't "fool" the system by keeping a chip key in your pocket. (Which I could do with my 2000 Ford Ranger with the PATS system.)

Of course, a "Smart Key" system (keyless ignition) is completely different. I'll let owners of those chime in.

I was a bit surprise about the third actual key but whatever lol.. I save it inside the truck in case my automatic tail gate lock craps out, since I now have the Meso minimalist

I got two keyfobs at delivery then after reading others posts here, I realized I needed the 'old style' key for the tailgate and glove box lock. I was about to call the dealer about it and it showed up in the mail - the dealer realized they forgot giving it to me so they mailed it to me. So I received two keyless fobs, and one basic key.

I received the same notice attached to the key FOB. I purchased on Mar 18, 2021.

 

I got 2 fobs with my 2021 TRD OR end of January but he did say there might only be one until later and would go check. He came back with the second key.

 

I had the same issue. I only got 1 remote key and 1 standard key. The dealership had no idea how many keys I was supposed to get. Toyota is supposed to be contacting us when the 2nd remote key is available.

 

Why does it say "To be removed by customer only?" If someone else removed it first, the customer wouldn't even know it had ever been there. Right?

 

On my 2021 Pro I got 2 Fobs, a tailgate key and 2 random master keys. The tech said they were for the glove box or tailgate but they obviously aren’t.

Still haven’t figured out that mystery.
