Search rust proofing, fluid film, cosmoline, Krown and you'll get more information about this than you'll ever need.

TL: DR. Yes rust proof is a must for these trucks if you plan to keep it long term. Regular maintenance is key, most of us here go the fluid film yearly or cosmoline and get under there and just spray the shit out of everything. You'll need about 5-6 cans on first application. Wear gloves, eye wear and shitty clothes. It'll get everywhere. I also put down some cardboard boxes cause its messy. Also park outside for a few days- 1 week if you park in the garage cause FF smells like shit. lol I do it annually before every snowfall, i spray down the frame with dish soap, pressure wash and then re-apply FF in hard to reach areas, and cosmoline in the main frame areas. Don't forget to drop the spare and get under there as well! Cheers!

Here's a pretty solid review/testing on a range of products. Anything cosmoline is going to work well. CRC is my recommendation because cosmoline has been proven for 100+ years. Smells like oil for a few days though.

I agree, and found cosmoline holds up the best, but it doesn't creep well, so for that i use FF to spray in the harder to reach areas and let it creep, but for the exposed frame and bigger areas, i go to town with CRC

Don’t own a Tacoma yet, but have done a lot of research while I wait. I live in the Midwest and absolutely will be rust proofing. I plan to go with one of the cosmoline products.

One of the few advantages of living in Florida these days. No worries about rustproofing the frame. If I still lived in either NJ or VT I would be, no doubt.

Fluid film applied liberally, and every 6 months. Up where you live, salt doesn't ever disappear from the roads...
