    Hi Guys!

I have been a reader on this forum off and on for the past few years and I've always been a big Toyota fan. Finally pulled the trigger on my first truck and wanted a 3rd gen before any potential switch up for the new gen.

HOWEVER, I think there might be an issue with my brakes and would appreciate any insight you guys may have. I didn't really pay attention to it or notice it until today, but the first ~1.5" of pushing my brakes gives me a slight hiss sound, then the brake starts to engage and I HEAR the sound of a small electric motor sound briefly engaging. I am assuming this is the brake booster whirring.

Is this normal? Doesnt feel great and progressive like I imagine it should be. Its been a couple weeks of ownership and I am around 400 miles. If I bring it to the dealer is it something I will have to pay out of pocket for?

    Thanks in advance everyone.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
So, Toyota has a bumper-to-bumper warranty bring it to the dealer explain/demonstrate your concern and see what they come up with. It won't cost you anything but time.

Normal for the hydraulic booster in the pro and off-road.

The brake delay is not normal on my OR. I can sometimes hear the booster, but there isn't a delay in braking.

Take it to a dealer and ask them about your issues. You shouldnt have to pay anything because that truck is brand new.

Turn the ignition to ON but do not start. Push on the brake and you should hear the booster. If that's the sound you hear, then should be good.

you should take it to the dealer rather than asking for random advice from unknowns about a life or death question related to if your brakes are working. If you have read your warranty book you should know the truck has a BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty for 36k miles.

Like what @Trail Limo said. I had the same sensation on my 2019 Off Road when I hit the brakes. Especially, at low speeds you could feel it more prevalent. It eventually went away.

dealer needs to address something like this. its your braking system, not some cabin light that keeps burning out for some reason. when my new '22 had brake issues, I always added "are you sure it's safe to drive this with the brakes like this?" in my conversations with the toyo service rep so he/she was clear about my concerns.

A plethora of members feeling it since 2016 over here. Some of them have received the ban hammer. :pout:

It’s a brand new truck with a warranty…take it in and have the dealer look at it.

Just kidding. That's a nice truck and you're probably overthinking this, I had a similar electronic booster system on my 2011 TRD OR that would give the occasional buzz or hum. It's a fairly aggressive brake setup, making a little noise here or there can be normal. Its not poorly designed, I came to appreciate how it behaved off road and in snow.

You'll get used to it, enjoy the truck

Not the friendliest welcome to TW I expected!

Brake functionality is excellent. I would know if it felt unsafe. This post is more of a "Hey guys, does your truck make this sound too". Be nicer bro

Hhahah never! But I think you are right. I am being hyperanalytical and when driving its impossible to notice. Only noticeable at <1mph.

Nice find, seems like this could be the exact same thing. Glad I am not imagining things, also glad it appears to not be an issue.

If you’re worried, have the dealer look at it but I’ll say this:

I came from a Mercedes C Class to my 21’ Pro. I was used it “instant on” braking. The truck brakes felt like pillows engaging coming from that. I could also hear a ton more whirrs and buzzes in the brakes and other systems.

It was all normal. Just wasn’t used to the “less refined” nature of the truck.

Good point man, I am super used to my Civic SI with extremely responsive brakes. This sounds like the reason I am noticing it hahah
