    Hey everyone,

So I wanted to see what the community could offer to my ‘issue’. This isn’t mechanical or electrical or any of that. Anyways..

The truck is brand new, not even 1k miles yet. I cannot see a damn thing out of the windshield when it’s raining. The wipers create a huge haze over the windshield when they wipe, and it quickly fades until the next motion. At night it’s dangerous because others headlights absolutely kill any visibility you had.

I am a bit stunned because being new, I can’t imagine the windshield, wipers, or anything related would be “wore out”. Is there something that wasn’t done prior to my taking possession? I cleaned the windshield with rain x cleaner and still the issue persists. I wiped the blades as well and cleaned where they rest. There’s just nothing on either to be causing this haze.

I’m curious if anyone has had this issue, or knows a process to remedy it. I will add that when the window is dry it is extremely clean and not ‘slick’.

    any advice would be awesome!

Try cleaning your forward wind screen with alcohol.

Replace your wiper blades. OEM wiper blades are really cheap from dealership.

    Hopefully that'll help.

Even though wiper blades are consumables, dealership ought to be willing to replace them if they’re bad after 1K. Worth an ask.

If you are sure the windshield is good and clean (I like the Stoner Invisible Glass wipes) try changing the wiper blades.

Although they are "new" they might have been contaminated somehow along the way, personally I feel the quality of most all wiper blades has gone downhill over the years, seems like a year and they are done. I usually buy the Trico brand ones.

Mines done this a bit since new, as does some of my family’s Toyota’s. Haven’t gotten around to investigating it yet. I have replaced my wiper inserts once due to ripping. The Toyota wiper blades are good quality and work well in the winter, I dont think they are the cause. I had this similar issue when I used RAINX washer fluid in my old 4Runner and have never purchased it since. I wash the truck routinely and clean windshield with Windex. I think it’s some sort of mineral deposits on the glass itself.

Thanks for everyone’s replies. I will try all the suggestions and if none seem to remedy it, I’ll replace the blades. I planned to just stick it out until it’s first oil change then mention it if I hadn’t corrected it by then. I’ve never owned a new ride, mostly 100k plus trucks and never had an issue like this with simply getting a clean windshield with my wipers

I asked the last time I went in as one of mine has a centimeter sized chunk out of it. They said no.

Rain x can get dangerous if you put too much on. A long time back I had a problem with the anti fog version for the inside. If you put too much on it had a reverse effect creating foggier windows.

I don't like Rain X on my windshield either, never had the desired results with it.

This is in my option the best way to clean a windshield. You don't need the rainex because that might be some of the problem. Make sure that you use the "0000" steel wool only.

I’d clean the windshield with denatured alcohol or pure white vinegar and paper shop towels. Twice. Including the blades.

My mom had this issue with her new mazda cx5, the windshield wiper fluid was too concentrated so we had to dilute it a bit.

I personally haven’t had a bad experience at all with my local dealer. I don’t bring it to them for anything other than routine maintenance that I cannot do on my own. My purchase came with 2 years free maintenance and my dealership offers a lifetime powertrain warranty under the conditions of a tire rotation every 5k, and oil change every 10k (can be sooner but no more). Still playing with that idea but it was on the table at no extra charge. Toyota of Gallatin

I have had good luck with cleaning the windshield with a clay bar to remove any fall out - then I use a product called 20/10 Windsheild cleaner (in a green bottle) to get the oils off and then the alchohol on the wiper blades. Used this combo for years on the ambulance fleet I maintained with good results.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Betting the dealer sprayed some kind of quick detailer on the whole thing, including the glass. I've heard of this happening when P&S Beadmaker and other detailing products are applied to the glass so I've avoided it. Hit it with a good solvent cleaner and swap the wipers and you should be good to go. FWIW I've had great results with the Rain-X but it's a pain to apply right. Use sparingly and keep buffing until you think you've removed it all again, otherwise it'll leave swirls and haze like crazy.

That dealer (Toyota of Gallatin) used to be the worst dealer in all of the southeast when it was owned by Ron hibbard. They finally bought him out and fired all the staff responsible for the nightmares that went on there. (I know, it happened to me) I have been back since the new owners have taken over and it was a night and day difference. They know they have a long way to go repair years of damage to the local customer base.
I would not be afraid to bring the truck to the service department for the wiper issue. I am also from the Gallatin area.
