I will agree that it has seen some major improvements since the buy out from Ron Hibbard. I know dealerships have a bad reputation in general, and I usually check things like oil after they've done it. I've actually gotten in the habit of popping the hood before i even leave the bay, just to make sure sloppy work wasn't done, or they didn't leave caps off etc.. I don't like to rely on any shop, but I keep ALL of my records. I let them change pretty much every fluid. I dont like disposal of the old fluids. Not to mention the certain tools needed to do the job right, which I don't have.

I believe Toyota of Gallatin (and Bowling Green) would stand behind their work if it wasn't up to par. Hopefully I don't have to find out. Have you been through there and seen the work they're doing to the place recently?

Sounds like the dealer got some sort of cheap polish or spray detailer on the glass. As others have said, clean the window with something strong enough to cut through whatever wax is on there.

A lot of factors go into that. I find that happens on my windshield for the first few minutes or so of a storm until the wipers and rain clean the windshield off. It's just a bi-product of a more upright windshield.

    Yes,
about 2 weeks ago I had my 5000 mile service and had concerns about drivability to see if there was an update for the truck. The service manager took the time to drive the truck personally and check for updates- he said he was waiting for the same thing for his new Tacoma off road. The old service manager straight up lied to me and covered for the obnoxious, confrontational service advisor. (They fired those guys)

I’ve experienced this in the past, even caused it myself on accident. Seeing as your truck is new, just clean the glass really well with a good glass cleaner, shouldn’t have to use steel wool, it’s brand new after all. Also clean the rubber on your blades as they can often have release from being manufactured left on it, especially cheap ones.

Windshield problem, someone has used a silicone based product on the glass, which can be almost impossible to remove with standard products. This is a delivery defect from the dealer. You have the option to register your complaint on the Toyota customer, site.

Find a SafeLite Glass dealer, they will advise you right away what the issue is.
I have used them in years past for "dealer glass", they can remove a windshield on any vehicle, replace it, and will be just like factory fresh. Of course you do not have to do this, except they will have an answer.

    None.
My 19 has this issue, except it’s all the windows. Side window in the rain.

Good morning, I bought some steel wool (only 4 bucks), some invisible glass, and have some denatured alcohol and I’m gonna attempt it today since it’s stormy and see how I fair. I will report back if it seems to solve it for me. Gonna ditch any rainx cleaner or wax until I can get the window right

A lot of cars back I used to use rainx, or wax my windows, and it worked fine for about a week. Then I could see the gunk built up on my wiper blades. Then I learned to clean them and never put anything on the windows with wipers. Now I typically use a manual wash bay that has the wax spray. Never spray that shit. It stinks anyways. I’ve been cleaning my windows with alcohol inside and out. My biggest problem is where I live we have 2 bee hives, and a wild hive just on the other side of the fence. Lots of flowers in bloom, pretty much constantly. Bee poop is real.

I’ve been using rain x for a few years now and can’t say I’ve ever experienced this issue. I’m knowledgable about vehicles, mechanics, and can generally do all my own work (only really lacking in the tools and space anymore). But, I feel like an idiot for not being able to get a window clean. Hahaha

I also have pretty terrible eye sight, I’m not sure why they let me drive. ;)

    Here an update:

I tried 3 different times today to clean this windshield. Granted, it rained all day. But the second time I did this, it was in a parking garage outside of the rain. I used 91% alcohol, let it sit for a bit, then began to wipe it away. I then used the 0000 steel wool and went over the window, then finally wiped it all down and used some invisible glass cleaner… to no success. I repeated this process over and over again. It may have helped a little, but far from acceptable. Still has this haze when the wipers are in motion. I did clean them every time, with the same alcohol and a clean shop towel. Driving home tonight was.. sketchy.

I’m gonna give it a couple more goes in better weather though so I’ll update the next chance I get.

    Update/Final:

Well after repeatedly cleaning the windshield, I’ve finally gotten it clean enough to not be a hazard. I had to really focus on some spots with some elbow grease and cleaner. There’s still some areas I need to focus on, but I did learn two things from this whole experience: alcohol leaves a beautiful clean glass, and 0000 steel wool is a miracle for scum on a windshield.

thanks for everyone’s input and replies.

I don’t think I’ll every use any kind of rainx again, if that was indeed my issue. (I feel like it was even though I’ve used it for years without this issue)

I would suggest change the wiper blades. Many times cleaning the windshields, I clean the blades, black residue from age and everything else.
