    Awesome.
Since I got the complete full kit. I guess I will switch out to the BNL/BNO and sell the Pop-N-Lock with PNP adapter.

dumb question but I don’t have a push to start, so would my key fob still work? I am confused on how it opens if I purchased the full kit. x3 unlock?

Yes. Your key fob will work as it is hooked up through your wiring system through your passenger side kick panel. Just check your kick panel.

    PNP Harness (IK1 Connector)

    B5CD1A25-129D-4635-B9E5-A8BDC1FF1B58.jpg

Basically how it works is through the locking and unlocking system of your 3rd Gen Tacoma. You install the Bolt-N-Lock on the OEM Tailgate Handle/Rear Camera. This handles the Lock/Unlock of the Tailgate. Then you install the Bolt-N-Open Bracket on the Passenger Side of your Tailgate and it handles the pulling of your Tailgate Latch in order to open your Tailgate.

    Bolt-N-Lock

    Bolt-N-Open

Once you have both of these systems fully wires up, you will need to purchase the TR7 Module from @DSIM that will recognize the 3 Unlock Button Pushes and activates a relay that will trigger the actuator to pull for two seconds in order for the Tailgate to open.

    UPDATE:

Well I wanted to give a little update as to what I was able to get to over the weekend prior to having a family emergency for my grandma. As I currently sit at the hospital, I might as well make this post to keep my mind busy. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any videos of the last part at this time because I had to cut the project short, but I will give some detail and feedback regarding the A-Harness & In-Cab B-Harness.

    Prototype TR7 for Testing

    870499BE-3001-4B9D-A338-B33E72148303.jpg

Due to my Integrated Harness being ran prior to making all the changes and whatnot, I needed to make some minor changes and why not dress up the Prototype for the time being anyways.

    1972218F-351A-4046-8996-3EFFF5803DB6.jpg

    32C86659-99EE-436C-B4AA-3881824FB5A3.jpg

With this being the prototype, the TR7 just had little Connections coming out of it. I didn’t want to put any stress on them, so I made my own 6” Color Matching Wire Extensions to match the Wire Diagram:

    BBDA769B-F4C9-40BB-8A63-EDA162CF7A07.jpg

    Then I made my connections:

    53E2EB5C-DE64-4568-AAAE-1E4DDE5032F2.jpg

    1A6AE922-67FD-47CF-9DB9-2F131AC99305.jpg

Right behind these OEM Wire Harnesses there is a nice open location. I was able to fit the Tailgate Open Enclosure as you can see perfectly.

    16551662-1B73-4023-82E7-CF8C7481FE03.jpg

The first test I did was for the A-HARNESS (seen above) which is with the OEM Key Fob and the TR7 Module from @DSIM. The TR7 recognizes the OEM Key Fob Unlock Button Pushes and in turn activates the relay to trigger the actuator to pull for two seconds in order for the Tailgate to open. This was a success!!

    https://youtu.be/V_yfagHwjf4
As you can see in the video, it actually takes 4 Button Pushes in order for it to recognize and then activate. However, that all is able to be programmed by @DSIM and the unlock count has to do with the settings for the truck. If you hit unlock once and your passenger door doesn't unlock then it will take 4 unlock pulses to trigger the output. The TR7 is programmed for 3 pulses but our input is the "Passenger" door. There's a setting in the Entune System where you are able to change it to "unlock all doors" then it will work on the 3 Button Pushes. @DSIM will have it programmed this way on the final released product.

The second test I did was for the B-HARNESS (seen below) which is with the CH4x4 Push Button Momentary Switch and the TR7 Module. The TR7 recognizes when the Switch gets pressed in the cab, it then triggers the actuator in the Tailgate to pull the latch for two seconds in order for it to Open the Tailgate. This was a success as well!!

    8948FA0F-1BF0-45E0-9F8E-53761FE4A6AE.jpg

Before all this had gone down I had reached out to Ch4x4 about making a custom design for this mod. I wanted it to match the truck inside our cab.

    BA07D368-63F8-4193-9E86-407E7A044538.jpg

However, I wanted it to follow the Chevy Fob Button Design with the Tailgate being open with the Arrow minus the x2 because it’s a Push Button Momentary Switch.

    5615F457-93FE-45F9-842D-666191EBBF1C.jpg

I asked about a month ago for their design team to come up with a design for me and their manager has been personally in contact with me and we have been texting back in forth. I’ve been updating him about the Tailgate Lock and the Tailgate Open. Well today I am supposed to have the design and Switch done and sent to me. Please forgive my rough sketch as it was done in paint, but it will look something like this:

    98D0366C-B48C-407C-A913-93795C6CDBC3.jpg

I have spoken to them regarding their Momentary/On-Off Switches and they are aware of my dilemma. I have informed them that I do have a momentary Ch4x4 Switch from another Vendor that I have access to and I can get. If I am not able to use their On-Off Custom Switch and they aren’t able to make me a Custom Momentary Switch that they are looking into, then I do have my other vendor that can get the Momentary Switch and then I can still get Ch4x4’s Custom Tailgate Opener Switch Cover that I can switch out and replace it with afterwards.

This has been in the works like I mentioned above for over a month or so. I personally think the ideal switch for this mod is a Momentary Ch4x4 Switch.

I personally made the CH4X4 SWITCH PNP HARNESS be able to plug directly into my CARGO ILLUMINATION PNP HARNESS. I used T-Taps to connect the ends of the LOCKOUT PNP HARNESS to the IGNITION and PARKING Trigger Wires.

As for how I routed the LOCKOUT PNP HARNESS, I found the easiest and shortest way was to unbolt the Passenger Seat, lift it up and the carpet, and just go straight to the plug from underneath. The total length of the Harness was 48”.

At this point, I had to stop my documentation due to a family emergency. I do apologize that I wasn’t able to continue to provide pictures and videos. Once things settle down with the family, I will try to pick up where I left off.

Well there’s your update for today!

Just wanted to sound off a few points here. The module is built on a custom PCB with 3 relays. One power relay and two signal relays that are setup as lockout relays with some simple relay logic. (IGN on, park on, GOOD | IGN on, park off, STOP | IGN off GOOD) The TR7 (currently) is what handles the logic of 3x Unlock Pulses to trigger the output. The TR7 does NOT handle the push button signal. The push button signal passes straight through the lockout relays to switch on the power relay. Because of this I had some concerns about what would happen if someone hooked this up to a latching style switch (typical CH4x4 switch). So I bench tested holding full 12V consistently on an actuator, and after two minutes completely fried it. I was concerned with this but KTJO says she has a vendor that offers a momentary "CH4x4 Style" push button switch that fits OEM Switch Locations. I wanted to scrap the current design and develop a true microcontroller solution that will only allow a two second output on a latched push button. Doing this would nix two of the relays and the TR7. But if we have a good momentary solution that can be offered with the kit this wont be a problem. The momentary switch will be a requirement though, I will need to put BIG BOLD LETTERS disclaimer to NOT USE A LATCHED TYPICAL CH4x4 switch, bad things will happen if you leave it on for an extended period of time. Either way I have ordered A-Harnesses from my factory and the B-Harness order will be put in shortly. If anyone has anyone questions please let me know.

Sorry for the delay folks, I went from not knowing Jack about how to design custom pcbs (mechanical engineer here) to having a product built in pretty good time because I knew it was the way to go. And the engineer in me tries to make sure every possible scenario is thought of before releasing. All steps necessary to getting a quality product out there. Bare with me finish line is getting closer.

All about trial and error! V2 will be an integrated controller no TR7, and then V3 will be the size of a dime and plug right into the tailgate lol. Good stuff

IIRC IC1 is a different connector than she has a t-harness made for... Would have to make another T-Harness or lose the full PNP ability and require a tap if that is in fact the case. @KTJO 4x4 can confirm that.

Yup it would be. I can program the TR7 to 2 OR 3 Inputs = Output. But it all depends on what the entune settings are.

But with the current way I program them (3 inputs)
Entune Radio Setting Driver Door unlocks first
    3x programmed
First press driver unlock, second press passenger unlock (TR7 Input #1), third press passenger unlock (TR7 Input #2), 4th press (TR7 Input #3). Tailgate drop. (4 Presses total)
    2x programmed
First press driver unlock, second press passenger unlock (TR7 Input #1), third press passenger unlock (TR7 Input #2). Tailgate drop. (3 Presses total)

Entune Radio Setting All Doors Unlock
    3x programmed
First press all doors unlock (TR7#1), second press (TR7#2), third press (TR7#3). Tailgate drop. (3 Total Presses)
    2x programmed
First press all doors unlock (TR7#1), second press (TR7#2). Tailgate drop. (2 Total Presses)

Personally I think the safer bet is to program it for 3x and have the user change the settings to All Doors Unlock or just live with 4 presses.

Correct. If it were up to me it be based off of drivers side. I can only go with the inputs available to me with the T-Harness.
