I have another update but you are going to have to wait until around 11pm because I’m currently driving home from the hospital for the night. I will post it then.

    UPDATE #2:

After contacting CH4x4 (AKA Cruiserheads) over a month ago about the possibility of making me a custom design that I had in mind, it has finally become a reality. :bananadance: I have received the digital samples of the soon to be NEW Custom Laser-Etched Toyota Small Tailgate Open Push Switch Design By CH4x4 for approval.

    164953F1-41FE-4017-A4F0-5488674123E9.jpg

CH4x4 really took what I had in my mind and made it a reality. Looking at our Truck OEM Push Button Inside our Cab and then also the 2019 Chevy Key Fob Push Button, it’s a great combination of both. The only feedback I gave them was regarding the cab length and bed length. However, I’m not sure without the arrow in the middle of the cab if that length would still look good. The way they currently have it, may look the best! I’ve asked for another sample just to see the difference.

As you can see, without the arrow in the middle of the cab, it potentially may look better with the cab size smaller and the length of the bed a little longer. We will see. However, I wanted it to follow the Chevy Fob Button Design with the Tailgate being open with the Arrow minus the x2.

Lastly, I spoke to them regarding the need for a Momentary Switch for this Mod. Luckily, I already had three momentary switches in my possession that I was able to test with to make sure they worked perfectly and they did. At the same time I was testing the Momentary Switch, @DSIM was testing the On-Off Switch and the likelihood that if a Customer accidentally pushed the button, forgot about it and then left the Push Button On, what would happen? Well he mentioned the results were scary. He shared the following:

With the Actuator connected directly to a power supply and turned on. It pulled closed and was pulling around 5 amps, after 2 minutes or so it dropped slowly to 2A then SPIKED to 11A for about 10 seconds. At that point, the smell of plastic burning was in the air as the motor was burning up of the Actuator itself. After those 10 seconds, everything dropped to zero and the Actuator was DEAD. Pictures are below....

    A998173C-FADE-44F7-BDDE-EFFACD94DC7A.jpg

Then it had been mentioned that CH4x4 does not offer a momentary switch for the toyota series push buttons. Since I had already been in communication with them for the past month or so about my custom design, I mentioned my dilemma of needing it to be a Momentary Switch. I also made mention that I had a Momentary Switch just like their CH4X4 Switch from another Vendor that I have access to and I can get it if they are not able to make Momentary Switches. However, I would still like to get a Ch4x4’s Custom Tailgate Opener Switch Cover that I can switch out and replace it from the other vendor switch. I then sent them the current pictures of my momentary switch in that size and exact switch:

Well....CH4X4 has informed me that for this Switch ONLY, they will be providing a MOMENTARY SWITCH for the TOYOTA SERIES PUSH BUTTON. I foresee this coming out though on their website soon because many customers are wanting Momentary Switches. The color options that were mentioned are Blue and White, but I’m sure if there is another color people are wanting, you can let me know and I can inquire about it. I will be adding one of those voting poll things at the beginning of this thread to allow you guys to vote on your favorite switch: TAILGATE OPENER, TAILGATE RELEASE, or PICTURE ONLY.

Well, there’s your second update!!! I might not be able to do a lot of modding right now, but I’m trying to do what I can. :)

Very minor adjustment but we have a little extension on the cab :) Minor details with the missing A in release. Integrated Harnesses are in Now! Wait on Double Black “V” Wires for PNP Harnesses.

I think I just like “TAILGATE” also. Without “RELEASE” or “OPENER”. The blank one looks too plain and off centered unless it can be placed in the direct center of the switch.

    Hi @KTJO 4x4
I do have a question though. If i have just the standard Tacoma Pop-N-Lock PL8535 kit bought prior to you making your kits and it is tapped directly to the trucks wiring, what would i need to purchase from you to make this work? I am also willing to remove the taps and insert one of your plug and play harnesses but its not necessary. Thanks!

This is the wiring diagram that you would need to be able to follow.

    00BD85F2-5DF3-47E5-A18F-BFE8B9213BDC.jpg

Therefore, depending on what you Wiring looking like with your taps, you’ll have some more taps. That’s for sure. It would definitely be a lot easier with purchasing one of my Harnesses with all of the connections that are going to have to be made but that is up to you and if you want to tap all of these factory wires this many times.

As for the Standard Tacoma Pop-N-Lock PL8535, you can leave that kit, you just need to purchase the Bolt-N-Open side of things. The PNL will take care of the Lock/Unlock Feature much like the BNL. I’m not sure what kind of wiring harness you are running from front to back, so you may want to purchase the Integrated Harness and convert that. Then I’d use your other one for maybe a added Tailgate Switch. Coming Soon Maybe ;)

Let me know if you have other questions

I thought the same but wanted to offer it just in case people wanted a blank one. I wish you could center it but with the way the LEDs work, you can’t center it. I asked the same question. We can definitely just have an option for just TAILGATE though

Thanks Katie. I just have the harness that came with the PL8535. I will probably purchase the integrated harness to make it cleaner..

Ye, I like it cause it would match the rest of the buttons, IMO.
Most of the other buttons/switches are what they are controlling, Camera, Ditch Lights, Air Compressor, etc.
Not technically on what they do.

As for having the PopnLock, but bought the full set anyways.
Im just going to switch out to the BNL/BNO, then sell the PNL.
Since I still have to run the wire harness for the BNO all the way to the cab, might as well just take out the old and just run one harness.

But now thinking about this, will PNL be able to use BNL's wireharness?
