Hi Everyone! Welcome to the Tailgate Opener information and ordering thread. This thread is an extension of the Tailgate Lock & Tailgate Opener thread. I figured since that thread has the list of the Tailgate Lock at the beginning, it would kind of be hard to have another list with it for the Tailgate Opener. Therefore, this thread will have just the order list. I will continue to use the other thread as the main thread with this one as just a thumbnail to that one when needed. I have found a new love for Plug-N-Play Harnesses. They just make your life so much easier when it comes to cleaning up your wiring. It not only makes for a professional installation, it is extremely easy to connect and disconnect whenever necessary.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this Kit is to add a powered opener that can be electronically lowered from your Key Fob, the Tacoma Interior or on the Tacoma Tailgate itself. This is accomplished by adding a second actuator inside the tailgate and using the provided harness to plug into the factory wiring through the passenger door.

PRODUCT DETAIL:

There is no need to Splice/Tap into your Trucks OEM Wire Harness. This New Harness is made with all brand new material including OEM Connectors, Terminals, and Wiring to go with your Trucks Wire Harness located on the 3rd Gen Tacoma on the Passenger Side in the Kick Panel Area. The purpose of this harness is to allow you to Open your Tailgate with your Key Fob, from the Tacoma Interior, or on the Tailgate itself. You are still able to use your handle to open your tailgate, but this alleviates the need for your handle and makes it more convenient for your use.

REQUIREMENTS:

Due to our second Bolt-N-Open Bracket & Rod, you are not required to drill any holes to mount the Actuator in the Tailgate. This New BNL Bracket & Rod anchors on directly to the Passenger Side OEM Bolts.



Due to our Plug-N-Play Wiring Harness, you no longer are required to tap into your Lock and Unlock factory Wires. This Kit & Wiring is 100% Plug-N-Play.



Due to @DSIM Tailgate Opener Module V2, you will be able to press your Key Fob 3 times for the unlock signal to the tailgate and it will open like magic!





It will also have the optional push button harness, that will allow you to open via a push button switch!

DSIM TailGate Opener Module = Brains of the 3-Click Mod

KTJO 4x4 TacomaWorld Kit = Hardware and OEM Plug-N-Play Wiring.

This Module is built on a Custom PCB / Arduino Nano platform. The enclosure is 3D printed and there are two connectors/wire harnesses that serve two purposes:

A-Harness (3x Unlock Functionality):

Included with the Module connects into your OEM wiring and provides Power, Ground,
Unlock, and Actuator signals. It hooks directly into the OEM T-Harness for full Plug-N-Play installation.







B-Harness <Optional> (Push Button Functionality and Interlocks):

The optional B-Harness will be available in a few weeks and sold separately. With the added B-Harness there are four wires (Push Button In, Push Button Out, Park Signal, and IGN Signal.) With this harness installed it allows for a Push Button to be used that is fully interlocked to prevent unwanted openings of the Tailgate while driving. The interlocks are as follows and when installed are applicable to both the 3x Unlock and Push Button openings:

• If Ignition is ON and Park is ON, then allow to open.
• If Ignition is ON and Park is OFF, then DO NOT OPEN.
• If ignition is OFF, then allow to open.

TAILGATE OPENER INSTALLATION STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE:

Step 1: With T-Harness UNPLUGGED connect DSIM’s A-Harness to KTJO's T-Harness and Integrated Harness (for the actuator) following the diagram above.





Step 2: Hook up TailGate Opener module while still UNPLUGGED from the truck. The white connector can only be connected fully one way. If you were to hook it up upside down while still plugged in it is possible to damage the board inside. (The cable will be shipped connected in the correct orientation for reference). It is crucial to make sure DSIM’s A-Harness is not upside down. Please follow the pictures below for reference.













Step 3: As far as the Module is concerned you are done. The rest is KTJO’s Complete Full Kit for installation of the T-Harness, Integrated Harness, Bracket & Rod, and Actuator. You can find those install instructions with the link listed above in Post #1.

Step 4: Check that your Radio Settings match the below picture. If they do not match, the module will likely default to the 4x Unlock instead of 3x.



Step 5: TEST

Installation of this TAILGATE OPENER COMPLETE FULL PACKAGE is now complete. It is very straightforward. However, if any issues arise during installation of the Tailgate Opener Module, please refer to the Trouble-Shooting information below. Trouble-Shooting:

Step 1: Pop open the enclosure. Check and make sure there is a red led on indicating that the arduino board is on.

LED is ON.
GOOD. Continue To Step 2.

LED NOT ON
BAD. Continue To Step 2 to try a reset.

Step 2: Unplug A-Harness. Led should turnoff.

LED should be off in ALL Scenarios.

Step 3: Plug it back in to reset the module. Led should be on.

Red LED is ON
GOOD. Continue To Step 4.

LED NOT ON
Power Issue. Check red and black wires on the A-Harness, and where the connections are to the T-Harness. Follow the Diagram in Post #2.

Step 4: Press unlock 4 times. There should be another led on the arduino that should blink with each unlock press (TX LED). After the TX blinks 3 times you should audibly hear the relay on the board "Click".

TX LED only Blinked 3 Times on 4 unlock presses.
Radio Settings. Check to make sure your radio setting match post #2. Else you will need to hit unlock 4 times to activate the tailgate opening event.

TX LED Blinked 4 Times on 4 unlock presses.
GOOD. Your Radio Settings are configured for 3xTailgate Open

The TX LED did not blink at all
GOOD. Your Radio Settings are configured for 3x Tailgate Open

The TX LED blinked, but the Relay DID NOT CLICK
BAD. Restart at Step 1 and try again. If this does not work after another reset then its possible the arduino output pin was shorted during installation. You will need a replacement arduino (Contact dsim.solutions@gmail.com or PM DSIM here on TW)

The TX LED blinked, the Relay Clicked, but the actuator did not move.
At this point the module is doing what it should be doing. Check actuator wires to make sure they are properly connected. Power is being sent from the Module but its not making it to the actuator or the actuator is not grounded.

*Adjustment instructions are under construction, pics and better verbage to come but heres the basics. Minor adjustments may need to be made to the latch on the bed side. The latch on the bed side is setup on a slotted hole, try loosening and adjusting the latch and retightening. You can also try removing the rubber stops. If you remove the rubber stops and that works then try shaving 1/8" off of the rubber stops.

The one item that is up to you that you will need to decide on is the Integrated Harness. For $20 you can get the New one or you can route two new additional wires yourself. That’s totally up to you and your skills. Just let me know on that one. Other than that, I’ll PM you separately and then send you a refund of the difference. Appreciate your purchase. I'm confused on exactly what those of us who have previously purchased your complete full package for the tailgate lock need to purchase in order to add the tailgate opener feature.

I know you're busy with fulfilling orders for your other products, but if it's possible to provide more detail outlining what each individual option does it'd be greatly appreciated

I have a Pop-N-Lock (Non-KTJO version) and purchased your harness so I wouldn't have to tap into the wires.
What would be needed to get the tailgate opener to work?

Guessing just the full kit?

 

I most definitely can but to keep it short. The easiest way to look at is, everything that I have on here is needed to operate the Tailgate Opener. If you do not have my Tailgate Lock, then you need my Complete Full Package. If you have my Tailgate Lock, well take everything that comes in that Kit and subtract what comes with it: BNL - Lock, Actuator, Integrated Harness (But this one doesn’t matter because the Opener uses a different one), and PNP Harness Lock.

The Opener has the New BNL - Opener, the second Actuator, Integrated Harness w/ 4 Wires, and then it just uses the PNP Harness Lock and adjusts it to make it the PNP Harness Opener. Since you already have those other items, you save money because you do not have to purchase them.

I don't have any of your previous products, been waiting to pull the trigger on this. If I purchase the complete kit above (FULL PACKAGE FOR $150) does that give me the opener AND locking feature? What do I need to be able to LOCK and OPEN the tailgate as shown? Thanks for these AWESOME products!!!!
