    Good morning.

I've been lurking for quite a while now. Purchased items from other members and done mods posted by others. Finally getting around to introducing myself.

I have a 2015 Double Cab Short Bed 4 Cylinder Pre runner Sr5 in MGM.

Love the truck and does everything I need it to do.

This morning on my way to class traffic was stop and go. The fast lane stopped, a car from the fast lane cut me off in the middle lane. I stopped just in time and a car going about 45-55 rear ended me. Super bummed on the truck. No one was hurt. We will see where insurance takes this as I am not at fault...[IMG]

Be sure to make it clear to the insurance carrier that you will now have a "dirty" CarFax. Since the accident wasn't your fault, you may be able to pressure them into replacing the truck instead of repairing it since it is virtually new. The blemish on the CarFax for the amount of damage that you sustained will greatly devalue the truck.
I found out the hard way when my SUV was damaged. When it was time to trade it, I had a VERY hard time finding a dealer that would even take it on trade, and of course it really devalued the vehicle.

im curious if insurance said anything about the smoked tail lights, always wondered if that would be an issue in an accident like this when they are trying to determine fault.

The light output is pretty much the same but I see where you are going with that. Hopefully that isn't an issue.

Me too. I do know that the only way to get out of fault for having rear ended someone is to successfully claim that the person you hit didn't have working brake/tail lights. I can definitely see them trying to use 'smoked' taillights as an excuse to at least get partially out of fault (not saying it was in any way your fault OP, but I've always been curious about it in situations like this)

Glad noone was hurt, trucks can be replaced

That driver admitted fault and I think she was on her phone but that's another conversation...

I'm a little surprised there were no injuries but really happy there wasn't. Could have been a lot worse during rush hour.

Truck is probably a total loss anyhow. These trucks don't take rear end hits to well, at least for the vehicle that is. The frame is made to give. I almost bet it will be totaled..

You should see the other vehicle. My truck took it like a champ.

Oh yeah. I'm sure she's in it worse. I can only imagine what hers looks like. I am just stating that it might be a goner. I've seen these trucks take a 20-30mph impact, the number bent in and the bed slightly pushed up, GONE. Safety is more important then the truck. Glad you didn't get hurt. It will all pan out.

Insurance should have nothing to do with the 'at fault' part. Only the LEO investigating.

If possible and you are up to it, show us some underneath pictures. Everyone screams 'frame' when they see body shots like that, but it may or may not be a problem. Just depends on the energy distribution of the hit.

Also, shots of the inside of the bed would be interesting. Like did it move, break at mounting points, etc.

    Glad you are ok.

I'll snag some more pics once it gets towed to Toyota collision center from the two companies yard.

Just met with the collision center guy and he wouldn't give me a straight answer. He said California is one of the few states that does not recognize diminished value so that'll be interesting to see how it works out. My USAA insurance guy walked in about ten minutes after me and will get back to me with a quote in the next hour hopefully. My one concern is that he wasn't taking into consideration my aftermarket parts.

As tempting as that may be, it's not going to happen. And who would be deserving of the it? The party that hit me? The insurance guy? Or toyotas repair estimater?

Never will unless they are declared on the policy.

Sometimes they'll just be acknowledged when you report them (usually with receipts), most of the time they'll want a bit higher premium for the 'extra' coverage.
