    Hey all-

Been around these forums for some time, I stay pretty quiet. My beloved 2015 dcsb TRD OR is being retired (unexpectedly) at 298,000 miles. She’s going strong, and I love her… owned since new. It’s been lifted its whole life- 3” toytec coil over bodies with 5100’s all the way around, rear leaf packs made up of a variety of stuff… s10 leaves… no blocks. Sway bar deleted. Tom woods 1pc driveshaft. ARB front and Schrockworks rear bumpers. Power stop slotted rotors, stainless brake lines, freedom off road UCA’s, HD ball joints, rigid Duallys on the front. Soft topper on the back. I’ve done a lot more (preventative maintenance, little tricks, upgraded parts, etc…) Sorry to babble. I’m having a hard time with this. Truck has been trouble free its whole life. Fast forward to Wednesday morning. I get a message from my boss- we need to get you a new vehicle, go pick something out… need it done before year end.

Ok, stop. I know what you’re thinking. F this dude, etc. Believe me, it’s not a “free” truck. It’s a company vehicle (but will be titled and registered to me) I was being compensated for the use of my 2015, this is no different- I just won’t be receiving monthly compensation in lieu of a new vehicle.

I digress- it happened so suddenly, I’ve never driven a 4th gen. But what else would I choose? It was between another taco or a 4 runner. I went 24’ dcsb TRD OR 6MT (I know…) It’s got more farkles than I would have gone for (moon roof, giant screen, swaybar disconnects) but I wanted a manual this time and they were hard to find.

My wife is bent outta shape about the manual trans

Im picking it up next week… I guess im just looking for validation from a bunch of strangers because I feel like I just betrayed an old friend. And I need to decide what to do with her as well… I don’t need 2 trucks. I’d really like it to go to someone who understands what they are getting… but that’s not how FB marketplace works unfortunately

Anyhow, I feel better for just getting it out there. Feel free to shoot me something encouraging or say something shitty, that’s fine too.

And if you made it this far- thanks for sticking with it!

Excited to join the 4th gen community,

    Kyle

Whats cool about the new trucks is that its really easy to fit big tires on them.

Once your wife rides in your new stock truck with it's smooth-quiet ride and all of it's updated creature comforts, she'll come-around. Once you watch the traffic disappear in your review mirror while ascending a long mountain pass, you'll question how much you want to mod the vehicle. As far as the MT, we as humans tend to underestimate our ability to quickly adapt. Your innate loyalty is a strength. Congratulations on putting 300k on a rig.

The 6 speed manual will be a fun rig to drive around. I am biased as I own a 6 speed 2nd gen, however I am jealous of all the upgrades that come with a 24. Sure, it's a departure from the V6 and the "charm" of the 2nd and 3rd gens. You're getting coil sprung, turbo charged, creature comforts, etc.

The internet is full of people who love to hate. Be happy you put so many miles on the 2nd gen. Now look forward to modifying your new truck!

Seriously thinking about parking it up at our lake house. It’s been fluid filmed yearly and is so clean I don’t really want to see it go. But… I could also use the money I guess.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Your wife may enjoy riding in the more comfortable truck and you may enjoy driving the manual

Maybe keep the 2015 as a fun rig to wheel/do whatever with, if your finances allow. Having an extra vehicle can come handy at times.

That being said, I understand how you felt having to let go of a vehicle you had for a long time. I had to let go of my old S2000 (owned it for 7-8 years) due to an accident. Felt painful seeing it being hauled away.

I had a g2 AC that was my girl too. And I completely understand your attachment to the truck. When I sold "Clutch" my 6MT I passed on 2 potential buyers. I ended up selling it to a gentleman who inspected every single hose, wire, and fluid. He knew everything about the 4.0 motor and was impressed with all the love i put into her. In short, I didn't abandon my friend, we parted ways. I found a guy who would love and respect the truck. He took it and loaded it in a container as he moved to Hawaii. How fun for clutch is that?

Seriously I emailed him the other day to make sure the truck was OK. No hidden breakdowns or missed repairs. He laughed and said Clutch was OK and loved Hawaii.

So, I guess I can offer you the comfort of knowing your not alone. Every time I see a silver AC g2 go by my heart sinks a little. But it goes away with time.

This helps immensely! I’m second guessing myself hard. I’m so used to watching the fuel gauge- 103mi at 3/4 tank. 164mi at half tank. 250mi at 1/4 tank. 310 and it’s time to find a gas station. Thirsty as a V8 with all the power of a 6. Reading all I can about the 24’s… and yeah, I’ll most likely see if someone on the forums is interested. She’s been great. Don't sell that truck. It's not worth anything compared to how cool it is.

Really first world problems...... It's a work truck move on. However, as I have become sentimentally attached to these trucks In the past too, I'd try and find a way to keep it. Sell it in the future when when you are ready.

I know how you feel. I just traded in my first real truck. 2006 Speedway blue 2nd gen that I got in high school almost 10 years ago. Got it with 95,000m on it and the headgasket gave up at 223,000. As much as I loved that truck she was starting to show her age and couldn’t justify putting the money into it to fix it up. Part of me feels guilty for it but I knew it was time. I sound like I’m putting down a dog here…

I upgraded to a 2022 and while it’ll never be my first truck I know there will be plenty of great memories made in that truck and I think that’s what’s important. Go and enjoy the new truck and with your wife!

I traded my Heavily modified 19 Tundra with 26k miles for the same reason. The Tacoma drive is insanely better. It even has more towing power but not as high of max payload.

The one thing i do not like about my new Taco is the back seat area. It’s stupidly awkward sucks for cargo sucks for passengers. Basically that and some of the “safety” features went too far so that its distracting from driving.

Well, the eagle has landed. At first I was missing the 15’ bad but I’ve gotta say… I’m really digging the new one. So solid… and I would brag about my 15’ being rattle free with nearly 300k… this thing feels like a bank vault on wheels! Speaking of wheels, method 703’s et35 and cooper 285 70 17 rugged treks fit totally flush and look awesome. I was worried about the “gloss titanium” but really love the color on the truck. Not so dark that you can’t make out any of the features of the wheels… anyhow, I’ll be yanking the side steps off and ordering another soft topper for it. Suspension will wait till spring. Trying to decide if I should fluid film? Always did the old one… probably will? Also- so glad I got a 6 speed… I love everything about it for now

Congrats my offroad manual is white as well. I just hit 20k km on my way to work this am. I traded a Pro in for it and still like this one much better
