Not all models fall into the vin range , so you gotta check yours against it . My 2018 sr5 was inside the parameters , FINALLY FiXED. Really enjoying the truck now . Please keep in mind it’s a Tacoma, all Tacoma’s have a little vibe here n there . But that rumblestrip under decel is history. I think it’s 0171-16 . It was just recently revised . Worked for me .

Is there a way to check the VIN range online?

Just opened a case with Toyota per my dealership's recommendation, they say an expert (Master Mechanic with access to Toyota engineers) from corporate will be in touch within 24 hours.
They were very helpful with opening my case over the phone fwiw..

I've got a very light amount of vibration on mine (400 miles on the ODO), mostly from 25 mph down to 20. Not super noticeable, but its there. For fear of making the situation worse by letting Toyota dick around with it, is it safe to just let it be and live with it? Or does this need to get fixed?

Did the same. Resulted in nothing. Case was closed....they called it a “normal characteristic of the truck”

I called it a “normal characteristic to sell the truck immediately”

90 and 99 still going strong. 99 drives like its off the showroom floor at almost 300k.

At Jeep dealership test driving new JLs right now.

I hope they don't do this whole normal thing with me again. I still have an 88 4x4 that has 0 vibes.
There's a design flaw somewhere & it sounds like they don't want to recall, seems very un-Toyota. They usually fix their flaws from what I've seen in the past..

I hope so bro. I wanted it to work...they just refused to fix my shaking under braking and diff howl. Also saw paint defects that were unacceptable. This along with working night shift....no time for going back and forth with a dealership begging for a fix for my 40k truck. Dealership let me down. And then Corporate.....It was simply time to go.

I agree 100%, I have some bubbling above the rear passenger door as well that I have not even mentioned yet, been trying to get them to concentrate on the vibes 1st..

Haven't had time to read through this beastly thread yet, but given the fact that the vibration occurs for some people with or without brakes applied, has anyone tried shifting into neutral while decelerating without brakes to see if the vibe is still there? Wondering if there is some weird coupling effect from the transmission and the rear driveline componenets...

It's the same pulse I feel sitting at a stoplight and when first starting the truck. It's not with every application of the brakes either- almost like a random ABS pulse.

did that on a steep hill as have others in other threads. the more aggressively you decelerate, the stronger the vibration. the only reason you feel it while braking is because
braking is slowing you down. steeper hill or harder braking will get you stronger vibration.
i have no idea of cause but likely some resonance induced by decelerating driveline. i feel it in body, pedals, steering wheel etc. the whole beast.

Pretty sure it's a driveline issue, wondering with so many different shock configs on the 3rd Gens & the fact that there could have just been a couple big batches of bad flexy leaf packs that we only see this on some models with certain shock & bad leafs combined..

I don't know if I buy the "bad batch" theory personally, but I do agree that its probably driveline related as it happens with or without brakes applied.

Sounds like more of a minor design flaw to me. Certain combinations of shocks, springs, bed configurations, 4x2s vs. 4x4s, etc. are causing a mild resonance at certain speeds/loading conditions. The fact that the issue has existed for years now, and Toyota has yet to release a solid fix, is both weird and reassuring to me. Reassuring in the sense that if the issue were serious enough, they would have put more effort and resources into resolving it.

Vibration in mine is minor enough that I am just going to chalk it up to a design quirk and move on.

I put mine in neutral several times while stopping today. Still a little bit of vibration but a fraction of the amount in drive. The vibration on mine seems to be the worst when the transmission downshifts right around 20 MPH and the RPMs jump up.

Been silently reading stuff on the forum since joining, thought today would be a good opportunity for post #2.
Had the vibration for at least 2k miles. Finally, when it was time for the 5k work, I said something about it (even though it drove me nuts).
At first, advisor said they couldn't duplicate the vibration, so I told them how it usually (90% of the time) occurs and hoped for the best. They called back about 2 hours later and told me the vibration replicated and that they would have to keep my truck for a couple days. Oddly, his voice and demeanor seemed to change just a bit, and after researching it post-work, I can see why (hint; $$).
Here is exactly what my invoice says:
Excessive clearance between brake drum and axle drum flange on both rear axles.
    Left drum reading 4.27
    Right drum reading 4.26
Removed and replaced both rear axle shafts
    OP Code- TC1801A 3.8
    T1 91 T2 50

    The parts list included:
    Rear Axle Shaft (2)
    Hub Bolt (12)
    Bearing Assembly (2)
    Brake Gasket (2)
    O-ring (2)
    Rear retainer (2)
    Snap Ring (2)
    Seal (2)
I found a Toyota parts place and ran all the part numbers and the list price on the above was 1700 bucks. I can see why the guy's demeanor changed a bit.

I will update when I determine whether this fixed the vibration.

You guys are awesome. Such good info all over this forum.

Toyota corporate called me today. Said they checked everything & 'the engineers' have not issued a TSB for an Off-road of 2019, so, I'm stuck she said for now but promised Toyota is always improving..

Bounce around to other dealers hoping they figure it out by chance or sell.....same thing that happened to me.

Hope you have good luck, the “master mechanic” near me could not understand the concept of road force variation when trying to balance a faulty tire.
