nah, they are high quality drums, not a cheapo part. Folks here mod the crap out of their tacos. They are black so should look like OEM. From all the talk here, the dealerships seem to play the vibration off as normal....which isnt acceptable to me.

I just had my 2019 checked out with the 20000 mile service. The dealership said there was a TSB on out of round axles. They replaced both rear axles no charge.

2020 tacoma. I fixed mine by re-torquing the lug nuts to the correct spec. FYI. Problem is gone now.

I had this issue with my 2019 DCLB Sport. The dealership mentioned that hes seen this issue and had parts ordered right away. The truck only had 5000km. But what they did was replace both rear axles as they did not meet specs for "roundness" and both rear drums. So pretty much a new rear end. Problem is gone now at 20 000km. Might be a slight shake or that's just my mind playing games.

Not sure where to find them. I think there was another thread on the axles. I remember doing research on the axles and apparently they source them from another factory and the QC QA just wasnt up to Toyota standard due to them running at such a high capacity.

My 2020 OR MT with 4500 miles is shaking when braking. I thought it was mud and dirt from off roading but I power washed the truck and it’s still shaking badly when braking. Getting my first oil change today, how should I go about this? Just tell them it’s shaking and show them this thread?

    thanks everyone

I would not show them this thread. You'll be branded as one of those forum monkeys. Tell them there is vibration when braking and you heard there was a TSB to address this. Let them take the next step. You always want to keep a little information in your pocket.

Has anybody with this problem ever removed their driveshaft and had it checked for being out of balance? Or is this something not worth looking into?

I thought the shaking went away after the oil change and it hasn't They were lazy about checking the truck since I went in at the end of the day. I will go back earlier in the day to have them check over the truck again and report back. It seems better after the tire rotation, but still persists at high speed braking. 60mph

When my truck had less than 900 miles there was a slight vibration when stopping at the bottom of a hill...it appeared to be in the converter of the transmission. If i put the trans in neutral and then stopped the vibration wasn't there. By 1500 miles the issue totally went away.

Problem fixed for me with the rear brake shoes being replaced. They were out of round from the factory as I noticed the shake from mike 1.Truck stops perfectly smooth now. Had them do it at the 6 month service. Should have brought it back in sooner but oh well!

Did you ask them specifically to fix the vibration or just for that specific service request? Thanks. Mine still shaking.... better when its not caked in mud but I believe it still happens when its clean.

I specifically told them about the rear end vibrations when braking from speeds around 20-50 and ask that it be fixed before picking it back up. Told them it feels like the rear braking system but I’m not a mechanic / I’m sure you have a TSB on this. The last thing they want to hear is that the customer is the “expert” even when we often might know what the issue is being enthusiasts.

Just had my Tacoma in for the 4th time for this issue since October. They installed the third set of drums installed yesterday and machined front rotors. I have 36K KM (24K miles) on the truck Last set last 6000 km (4000 miles or so). Service guy tells me that the rear axle TSB doesn't apply to my truck. I also asked him if he thought it was common / strange to have 3 sets of drums installed in less than a year. He shrugged his shoulders. Went to parts desk for a set of wipers. Parts guy was grinning from ear to ear while he asked if I just had a set of drums installed. Tells me that they had to send back a bunch of drums for being defective. I dunno. Good thing for the warranty.

They just replaced both rear axles and it's starting to shake again after 2 months. I am going to take it back to dealer again. Have to get it repaired before warranty expires and they want 9 thousand to repair it.
