I realize that different things result in different symptoms. But about a year ago (7k miles) one dealer did the rear drums due to to vibration upon light braking from 35 through 15 mph. At the time check drive-line angle and didn't find an issue. Re-surfacing the drums didn't resolve the problem, but I wasn't happy with the interaction with the dealer and decided to wait for next service and go elsewhere.

Today @ 14.5k miles I went to another dealer to get TSB 62-018 done, service, and "vibrator" check. Service adviser returned saying the Master Tech had, per request, checked u-bolt torque, verified the vibration was there and documented that both the rear drums and front disc's needed to be turned. He had not done the tune yet.

The tech proceeded to complete the TSB and turn both front and rear.

After a 20 mile, mostly freeway drive home, I *believe* the vibration *might* be gone. Maybe a TINY bit left. Since turning the drums didn't fix it the first time, I'm thinking the tech was indeed a master and found the problem (in my case) - front rotors out of spec. We'll see after I drive it a bit more.

How the drums need to be turned twice in that mileage and the rotors once is beyond me. Nothing has changed (no lift, added weight, etc.) I've known how to drive for a while, but after the first time at 7k, monitored my habits to ensure I hadn't mysteriously devolved into a "brake rider" - nope.

After reading other Tacoma owners experience re: rotors I suspect I'll have the problem sometime (shortly?) in the future. And then I'll add my SSO bumper, winch, and sliders and start diagnosing all over again.

Good luck to all with similar problems. I think we're going to need it.

Mike...your comment about brake rider caught my attention as I was thinking maybe I was doing the same thing...then I thought ...I am not driving any different than I always have and I had a 2016 tacoma before this 2019 that I didn’t have this issue with and I drove the same then as I do now...Toyota has a problem with these trucks and need to figure a way to correct it

Just got mine back. Here is what they did. It is the same as several others. As you can at the bottom they included specifics about the axle measurements and drums. I’ll post again once I get a chance to take it for a spin. The service manager delivered it himself to my house over an hour away and said it was super smooth the whole way. I’ll report back shortly.

Initial results are looking good. The rumble strip like shuddering is completely gone. There is still a very slight vibration when braking from around 20-10mph but nothing like before. It feels like other 2019s (that didn’t have problems) that I drove so I think it is normal. Time will tell. Also, for anyone in the NW or specifically the Portland area Beaverton Toyota is who fixed it. I bought the truck at Wilsonville and they completely blew it off and tried to tell me it was normal. Beaverton, however, has been outstanding every step of the way and went to bat to get the work approved by Toyota. I’ll never go to Wilsonville again but give Beaverton two thumbs up....just my opinion.

Glad they took care of you! I’ve been in 6-7 times for my rear diff howl with them. They changed the rear diff fluid and that was it ha

That sucks man. Did you ask them about the rear diff howl TSB? Your truck should be included.

I see where they replaced your drums when they replaced axles...they did not do the new drums when they replaced my axles and advisor said they should have replaced , resurfaced or checked drums after the axle procedure the first time...but looks like they have done the same on both of ours...today mine drove extremely well ..I just hope it stays that way

I have an SR5 so it’s not included. I paid for the TSB parts online and installed myself. Like the others i still have the howl after the install although it is better. I had an engineer fly out and everything. Confirmed same howl but normal for access cabs and SR5s lol

Appointment went well today at Toyota dealership. They turned my rotors and drums were really warped so they replaced them and check the new ones on the machine. I didn’t have time to pick it up but in the morning will report back with how she drives and the printout.

Sorry for the delay, I wanted to give it ample time before coming online and giving the all clear .

It seems to have resolved mostly but every now and then on a long slow braking area ... like coming down from 55 to a light with plenty of advance... I still feel something through the drivetrain. Almost seems if it’s the transmission, like someone who doesn’t know which gear to downshift into.

When on ECT mode I don’t notice this , either way I’m satisfied enough as I only plan to own this truck 3 years or so and take advantage of the high resale .

Sadly , I’ve got to eat my words as far as the touting I’ve done for Toyota engineering over the years. There is nothing about the current Tacoma that would make me think this vehicle will hold up like the 90’s-2000’s tacos and 4 runners I grew up loving.

I think I gave Toyota a little too much love for the past without taking a critical look at their current product. Overall not impressed with most of Toyota’s current offerings (drove Camry, and new rav4 for fun while I waited for my complementary wash)and personally think they have strayed from what made them great, fingers crossed Ford doesn’t wuss out on the bronco.

Personally I think they need to go back to the drawing board on the Camry, Taco, and Rav transmissions. They all shifted poorly compared to my problem ridden recent Jeep trade in which I’m spite of all its flaws had an 8 speed that always was in the right gear.

Same here...at times i still feel some vibration but NOTHING like it was doing...the axle job then resurfacing of the drums or rotors seems after 3-4 days to have resolved most of my shudder...I want to see how long it lasts...I think they should have replaced them too as this is a NEW vehicle not even 1000 miles having to have the rotors resurfaced...by the way...I LOVE YOUR AVATAR SaulGoodman

Anyone got any updates? Resolutions ...continued problems.

Definitely noticing my vibes slowly getting worse since originally having the dealer turn rotors and drums.

Any solutions to this in the aftermarket ? I don’t mind paying to fix the problem if there is a solution in brake swap or aftermarket leafs.

Great news happy for ya ! I’m gonna have to take her in this week and see if they can measure axle flange or something. The wife notices it so it’s officially a problem.

funny observation is that they used a 75W90 oil instead of the Toyota recommended 75W85 on that list
