It's only up to 18 as of now. that tsb is also for non TRD trucks, but the one today was a trdor with bad flanges.

How would one go about suggesting they check the axle flange measurements without necessarily mentioning any forum related talk. I'm sure I will only get to talk to a service advisor so I need some ammo that he/she can relay.

I have visited the dealer once and described my symptoms which led to turning of the brakes, but have suspected the axle problem since day one. We even have one member @Cl4aub who was fixed with the axle change.

Can I mention the TSB without telling them how to do their job or are there a certain set of specific symptoms that would lead down that road ?

Mine is a 2019 and because of the late production date mine fell in that tsb....my service advisor said they may extend the tsb to include 2019s later Maybe you should mention you have being doing some research and found that tsb 23 and that some 2019 models have also had this problem...tell them the symptoms you are having is exactly like what people are reporting that’s on that tsb and you want your axles checked for that problem...If you do not get any satisfaction from them...

Give it a shot! Also make sure to tell them that the axle part number in the TSB won’t work on your Off Road, just Incase they don’t pay attention. Everything else is correct (hub and bearing, gaskets, snap ring, etc)

Make sure they replace the drum or at least resurface them...they did not do this for mine when they first replaced my axles...still had shudder ..even worse...took back and they resurfaced rotors/drums .... so I would make sure they replaced the drums too

I finally had a chance to put some miles on mine since getting it back after the rear axle tsb was done. They delivered it the day before I left on a month long business trip so that is the cause of my delayed update. It is a night and day difference now that the axles and drums were replaced and are in spec. It is much smoother. Now instead of being filled with dread about buying the truck I am totally in love with it. I'm still irritated about all the hassle I had to go through and the fact that half of the first month I owned it the dealership had it. However, they did get it fixed. For some of you guys that are going through drums it is likely because of your axle flanges. Also, both the axles and the drums (along with all the other parts involved) need to be done at the same time. That is why some of you are still having problems after they only did one or the other. If your axles check out to be in spec but you are still having issues with drums needing turned it may be that the drums themselves have an issue with the mounting holes not being centered. That is what they found on mine in addition to the axle flanges being out of spec. The body of the drum was in round, but the rotational axis was jacked up. As far as the tsb not covering 2019's or TRD's that is irrelevant. Toyota is completely aware of this issue and you can get it covered. The dealership that fixed mine directly told me this. I hope you guys get everything taken care of. I can only imagine that most of you are just as frustrated and pissed off as I was. Best of luck.

Good to hear! My ‘18 has some vicbes and I plan on letting the dealer know for my next service.

Is that a Wilsonville Toyota plate in your pic? Is that where you took yours? I’ve been taking my truck to Beaverton for the howl issue with not much luck.

I bought it at Wilsonville and they completely blew me off when I took it back 5 days later and tried to tell me it was normal. Beaverton is who fixed it!

Haha nicely done! I’m on a first name basis with the shop foreman Paul. His hands are tied with my rear diff howl since I have an SR5.. but maybe they will be more open with my vibes when braking. I guess I’ll find out in a few months!

Picked up the truck today after a week in the shop. They ordered the wrong rear axles parts 42311-0480 instead of 42311-0460.
So far so good but will se how it goes for the rest of the week.

Mine too. If the ones on the lot do it, why are they wanting yours? Most likely to put miles on yours and test out possible fixes while leaving the new ones alone until their new owner complains. Let experiment on their trucks.
