Depends where the noise is coming from, but generally speaking it is either from the clevis to pedal or from the spring to pedal. The pivot itself is rarely the noisemaker, but could be for sure.

Interesting to hear about your problem, but not completely surprising. Toyota really should just switch back to their tried and true design.

My issue is that when I am taking off from a stop and let the clutch out in first, I hear a creak. If I’m in neutral and push the clutch in and out it’s quiet. I can’t quite tell if it’s the pedal or something under the hood. Thinking more and more that it’s the pedal.

Does this match the TSB issue?

    15k, 2019 OR.

I brought this issue up a few weeks ago during my 15k service and the tech could not duplicate. It seems to be getting worse now.

Also, what disc brake grease product are you using??

some do say the tsb handles the creaking. i didn't do it so hold on for more feedback.

you can use any disk brake grease. the deal is the high heat resilience so it doesn't melt and go everywhere.

3rd time? for the creak sound or something more?

3 times was when i decided the plastic needed to go and i worked up a FJ pedal swap to eliminate the plastic entirely.

For the creak. The last time they told me that the TSB does not apply to the 2020s so they just greased it. I might give them a kind reminder that if it's not fixed this time that it's legally a lemon and see to what length they decide to go.

    Interestingly, that is true:
    upload_2020-8-24_8-53-58.jpg

That is also unfortunate as it seems the updated parts in the TSB don't fully fix the issue.

You're Taco and $$$, but lemon'ing because of the noise seems excessive. That was cool that they made you aware though.

I didn't read through this whole thread but had anyone tried to get this TSB done and gotten any push back because of the ADM?

Great question. Most of the work is in the cab. About the only thing they need to do near the ADM is bleed the clutch, which doesn't require the removal of the heat shield. It would interesting if they recognized any ADM other than the braided line versions?

Guess when I take it in for the last free service we'll find out. I've greased it a couple times and it keeps coming back and I'm losing my mind because of it.

Let us know how it goes.

I had the ADM, tune, and SWB for the last two ToyotaCare oil changes and never a peep, positive or negative.

IMVHO, I do not see how a dealer could relate the pedal issue to the ADM, but there are a lot of off the wall stuff posted on TW about shops.

    Good luck!

On the recurring squeak, are you getting the pivots for the return spring? Both on the spring side and under the perches.

I had my truck to the dealer 4 separate times before they got the replacement parts in. Finally got it in and the sound was gone now around 6 months later the sound is coming back...

That at least helps us attack it on our own.

My plan was to buy the new parts if needed. I can at least rule those out and go with @subrat 's FJ pedal mod.

Although, FFS Toyota! They already have higher grade parts on the shelf. Give us the direct swap metal goodness in a TSB . . . :frusty:
The possibility of a linear spring would be killer also.

I'm getting it pretty much everywhere that moves that I can reach. We'll see what they say, but I'm tired of carrying around little packets of brake grease with me haha.

I wasn't planning on getting rid of the truck over the squeak, but figured that they might be able to pull out a few more stops is they were aware. There is also the "cash and keep" aspect of the lemon law here where they can offer you an amount to keep the car and deal with the issue, so that's always an option.

Truck is at the dealer as we speak and they are currently ordering in all the parts to perform the up to 2019 TSB on it. Cautiously optimistic that maybe the factory just didn't grease everything enough.

I was not judging, just passing along my internet opinion.

In the end, I hope that it is all good.

I bought my truck (2016 MT DBL Cab OR) last february when it was cold and the clutch creek was the first thing i noticed lol. It drove me MAD! However, it went away over time. Now i'm tuned, ADM, and Stage 2 clutch flywheel etc and i haven't noticed a single sound in a long while. Now at 90k miles
