Wish we could get a Trans with the 3rd gen ratios and steel shout that bolted to the 1grfe... I'd pay for that.

There is another TSB or two that are like that. Kinda weird, but it is what it is.

In the end, it is really a small issue. I wouldn't want to be anyplace else, even now.

Also, the parts can be replaced at home, or you could choose the metal FJ clutch pedal. There are swap details from @ShirtTucker in the ADM thread.

I just had it covered on a 2020 using the 2019 TSB. Mine was loud as hell, so that helped I'm sure.

Have anyone done this without warranty and how much did it cost at the dealership?

    ~$800 parts and labor.

That's what I was quoted in December. My 2019 was 4000 miles out of warranty, but I called Toyota corporate to open a case. They contacted the dealer and covered 100% of the cost under Good Will repair.

My 2018 has about 70k miles. I bought it used with 10k miles around 3.5 years ago. Should I even bother trying to call toyota corporate?

The TSB requires you to take to a dealer first, get the diagnose and let the dealer try to get approval first. But the TSB does say it only covers 3 year/36k miles.

If TSB repair is denied, then you can call Toyota asking for Good Will repair.

I was asked by the Toyota rep if I were willing to pay part of the repair cost, if Toyota doesn't cover all of it. Of course since I was asking for a favor, I said yes.

She said she would get back with me the next day, which she did.

She called the dealer service writer, whom was a nice guy, drives a Tacoma himself.

    Toyota ended up covering everything.

I would give it a try. The clutch feels 100% better after the TSB, I've been driving manual since 1996.

I saw this thread and got excited thinking my 2021 would be covered, but looks like TSB only covers up to 2019. Put some brake parts grease and still super loud. Truck only has 28k miles, but I hate dealership visits.

I've never had the tsb done, just the lube job which ultimately returned.

What I did 2 years ago was use some energy suspension polyurethane grease, they sell it in little tubes which is plenty for this use, get under the dash and with your hand stroke the pedal and take note of the plastic to metal contact points. Should be a little bushing that does like a 180* as you stroke.

Wear gloves(this is the tackiest substance known to man, I swear) and get that *** coloured substance on the metal rod and anywhere else you see that's causing noise until you stroke the pedal and the noise goes away.

You shouldn't really use wheel bearing grease and such as it can potentially compromise the plastic parts. Brake lube is okay but the urethane grease has teflon in it which I feel applies a coat that prevents the noise from returning anytime soon.

I did that two years and about 100'000kms ago and my clutch is still silent

2022 Sport MT ... same issue at 12k miles. Tends to be more noticeable when temps are more hot/humid. Annoying - sounds like someone is trying to hide a fart but it squeaks out a little :D.

My 2022 OR started doing this exactly as the odometer hit 12,000 as well. Horrendously loud and creaky. I got some of the polyurethane grease and slathered it on the contact points and it went away. My 2018 did the exact same thing at the exact same mileage and I had the TSB done with replacement parts. I ended up selling it because whatever they did completely changed how the clutch and pedal felt and I could not get it back to normal. I REALLY do not want that to happen again. I'd rather just lube it up every several thousand miles.

My 22 is doing it with 18k miles. Seems like TSB works for most but can come back. Hopefully there will be another permanent fix at some point. Been driving manuals since 1988 and never had this issue before.

They covered my 2020. They were able to get some Regional rep (I think) to approve the TSB (and costs associated) for my particular truck.

Thanks for the info. I ended up following some of the others advice and used brake parts grease and has been quiet for a week. Hopefully it stays that way.

My 22 OR started creaking around the 11.5K mark on the ODO. Took it in to the dealer last week, and the service writer said the TSB now covered the issue through 2023 models. They installed everything under warranty/TSB, and the creak is gone (for now). Don't really notice any significant change in clutch feel, maybe just a very slight difference in overall travel to disengage/engage? Anyway, just throwing it out there for anyone curious about the TSB for later models, it looks like Toyota extended it to cover all 3rd Gens.

Edit: found the revised TSB in another thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...tarted-“creaking”.816471/page-2#post-29295699

Also saw that @Fishersehorn31 was getting the TSB as well...
