    Hello All,
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new 4x4 Access Cab. I'm trying to decide on what options I should get on the truck. Right now, I'm leaning towards getting the manual transmission in the V-6. Anyone have any opinions as to getting the manual tranny versus the automatic or any other options I should get on a new truck? I'm new to this site, so forgive me if I fumble as I learn how to get around.

Welcome to TW  I like the auto better... the manual tranny in these trucks feels too clunky for my liking... however, make sure you drive both and determine what you like better.

Thanks Mike. Do you know which would be better for hauling a trailer or does it not really matter?

I have an access cab V6 Manual Trans 4x4 TRD Sport and I love it. I can't really compare the negatives and positives on the manual trans because I've only driven my truck and a 96 acura integra with 3rd and 4th gear missing in manual. I will say I love my truck and I love driving with the manual trans. Some guys put the TRD short shifter on it and claim it feels less sloppy, with me having nothing to compare it to but the integra maybe I don't notice the sloppiness.

I've always liked the manual transmission so that's probably what I'll get but I thought I'd get some other opinions first. I was thinking about getting the TRD shift kit too....anybody else have an opinion on that?

Most will say they don't see the reason for it because it's a truck not a race car, but reviews from those that do have it say they like it accept for the price and sometimes having a hard time getting into reverse.

My truck is the automatic, first one I've ever owned. I really like the automatic, but I'm thinking my next truck might be a standard. I like having a standard in snowy conditions, I just feel like I have more control. My understanding is the automatic gets slightly better mileage. You can't go wrong either way, drive them both and decide which one suits you. Enjoy!

I have had 3 manual tacomas and I liked them all. I just got a 2015 access cab AT, V6 and I'm glad I did. It was just time to get the AT and be lazy.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
The automatic is better for towing and hauling heavy and will get better gas mileage all around.

The manual trans Access cab is probably going to be a hard find w/o special order, depending on what other options/trim you're looking at. Food for thought. If it's what your want, it's what you want and you should get what you want... I'm just adding info.
