Hello, I am new to this forum and so far it looks great! I was researching my next new truck, (after my wife told me it would be a Tacoma) and found this forum. When I was in high school I had a '77 SR5. We called it baby sh_t orange. It was the ugliest thing you could ever imagine. It was unstoppable though.

I am not looking to spend a million bucks on the purchase and am thinking a double cab prerunner. Pros/cons on cabs and 2 vs 4 wd? No kids, only small dogs. Will spend a year or two in AZ then off to Maui.

Also not sure if SR5 is best package or the TRD SPORT. Thoughts from the experts???

I do appreciate the help. I will be buying in the January 15 time frame.

    welcome to the forum!

i have the access cab sr5 4x4 and love it. It has the 4cyl in it backed by a 5speed and sometime i want it to have more power but am glad it is what it is. i also average 21mpg each tank. I have carried 4 guys including my self with 3 dirtbikes and a quad on a 12ft trailer from SD to Yuma with no problems. my gf loves the truck and it fits her chihuahua my Belgian malinois and my alaskan in the cab "snugly" it fits my lifestyle and i like having the longer bed, which you can get both in the double cab. it was pretty cost effective and i like having the 4x4 even though i do not need it in southern California. the sr5 is pretty much base but with the sport package you get the fogs and the traction controls with Limited slip Differentials. the "better" packages are the TRDs (off-road and sport), limited and BAJA on the newer models. they get pretty pricey thought which is why i purchased the sr5 and made it into what i wanted. the doublecab prerunners are nice. The bigger back seat is good to have but just isnt needed for my current lifestyle. I hope this helps

good luck with your purchase and thank you for your service. if you have any specific questions let me know

Thanks for the info. Especially surprised on the 12 ' trailer tow!
I was wondering about the SR5 with later upgrades. Guess best to compare prices for best route then
