My wife is scheduled for a C-section tomorrow at 1pm central. She'll be 37 weeks, 4 days, and the baby is "growth restricted," which is why they're going in to get her early.

Just thought I'd throw it out there...

    She's here! Born at 1:33pm... 5lbs 9oz, 18.5" long.

Her lungs weren't fully developed, so she'll spend a few days in the NICU. She's doing pretty well, though. She's under an oxygen hood in the picture.

    Thanks, all!

    Thanks!

She's doing pretty well in there. All of her cardio tests came back with positive results, so it looks like there's nothing wrong with her heart.

The initial reason she went to the NICU is that she wouldn't "pink up" - which means she wasn't getting enough oxygen. That's why they had to put her under a hood. We just got back from the NICU and she's already out from under it and her oxygen level is consistently above 96, which is great - they want it to be above 88.

Her breaths per minute is the next hurdle. She was holding steady at about 100/minute. 30-60 is normal, but the nurse said the last time they measured it she was actually right at 60, so it looks like she's doing better on that, too.

With those improvements came a minor setback... her bilirubin level is elevated, which is pretty common, but it means that she's under some pretty bright lights for the night.

They'll do another Xray tomorrow and see how her lungs look, but everything is looking good so far.

Here's a picture of my wife's first visit to the NICU. The look on her face breaks my heart a little... She wants very badly to pick her up and hold her, but we can't yet. Like I said above, though... hopefully tomorrow.

I'm doing fine. Her mom came through surgery great and is already up and walking around. She's mostly just sad that we can't have the baby in the room with us. Thanks for asking.

    Thanks.

This is our second... Our first turned 2 in January.
