John Big,i read that there is a weight limit on the OEM rack of 100lbs , i guess what i was wondering is if the OEM rack rate at 100lbs , or is that the amount that Toyota recommends not going over on the roof of the truck, im sure with that rack you have i could stuff several hundred lbs of dive gear on it,but i dont want to collapse my roof.

Got your point. Thanks.. But, those are OEM suggestions and recommendation. It's for us to find out sometime what it can give us. THis is my analogy. I'm around 200lbs and I can sit on my cab top as well as my friend same weight as me. That's 400lbs. As long as the weight is equally distributed, I think it will be fine. It's the risk we have to take for us to find out just like when we risk our truck when we go off road.... But please don't listen or follow what I did. It's my truck my money. Do what you think is best with yours. Merry Christmas and thanks a lot for reminding me about the OEM limit. I wish someone from Toyota is reading this so they'll change and make it better for our peace of mind...

How is the rack for whistles and wind noise?

Really like the rack but don't want to spend nearly $600 on it if its noisy.

Any foreign thing you add outside your truck will create wind noise. In my experience, I heard it between when running 35 to 55mph but nothing really when pass that speed. But it's all depending on how the wind blows of course.

Banks exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. removed secondary air filter. Bilstein 5100s front @2.5 and 5100s rear. AAL. Fog light mod. Baja rack. Billet grille. 265/70/17 falken wild peak A/T
There are now new brackets for the BajaRack and they have resolved the contact with the roof/metal. I got a dent in my roof with the old brackets, but BajaRack took care of it and the new mounts work really well.

As far as wind noise I havent noticed any at all unless it is really windy (like 15-20 knots windy) outside but thats it. Anything you stick up there when its that windy is going to be noticed. But as far as around town and freeway on a normal day I dont even know it is there.

    Just wait!
Thanks AJ, I hope that people take time to research everything they put on their Tacomas.

Pic of new mount for those interested. the mount sits fully in the channel vs hanging over either edge on the original design.

I know this is an old post but I just a thought.... The brackets that mount to the roof line look pretty simple. If someone was able to measure and share the sizes of those brackets, I'm certain several of us could fabricate our own brackets. Then we would have the option to mount other, less expensive brands of baskets.

Do you own a tape measure? yank the channel covers and measure the holes....

There are 4 different brackets, all of them are specialized to their location.

I would measure your own or make sure you account for a little margin if you take measurements from someone else. I found when designing my roof racks that the holes varied slightly from truck to truck on where they were in the channel. Not by much but if you are trying to be precise you will want to check.

More interested in seeing what the measurements are in between the 90 degree bends and the overall height of the bracket. I may have to go and buy a tape measure though, lol...

x2 A few years ago I had a candid conversation with the owner of BajaRack, Sergio at his office in San Diego, and he intimated to me the exact same thing. i.e. variability from the Toyota factory.
