That is what the local installer uses to get them to lay flat. If I were to put one on my truck I would leave it closed all winter. Rubber gets stiff in the frigid weather here in Illinois.

Not sure if I can completely agree with that statement. IMO there is a slope.

The issue is can this slope be mitigated with proper placement of the gasketing materials?

The good news it that this seems to be the case as you and others are demostrating.

Based on that I said 'F' it and picked my G2 up from the Purolator depot last night.

Not as cold here in southern BC as opposed to where some of you others are but I will crank the heat up in the garage, blow the dust off the heat gun and give it a try this weekend.

That is bullshit 800 balloons and you have to pump silicone into the corners. I can not believe how long these guys have taken to get a product out and it seems like they never true tested an install on a 2016 truck. These guys are a bunch of assclowns. As I do feel your pain I have a Revolver X2 with a ship date of 2/17 on it. I feel they missed the whole design in that 1/2" offset in the back of the bed. Gasket is not the answer, those rails should be contoured just like the bed rail.

And please don't think for a second that someone at BAK is not also watching this thread and forum.

This is true about not being 100% waterproof but not like what is happening to these guys. BAK to save face should stop production redesign the rail so it is right tell these guys to bear with them and get them new correct rails. Not send them a roll of gasket and tell them to get RV silicone. They are one of the most expensive covers in the industry for a reason. Live up to it and make it right are you reading this Frankie and Doug?

Even an Access tonneau cover has a supplement to their installation sheet for the 2016 Tacoma stating how to deal with the tapered end of the side rail.

Sorry to hear all the issues out there. Had an enjoyable F1 long bed install here in Massachusetts. Couldn't slip a piece of film in there at the tapered end. All the parts came in the package too. So I was excited right off the bat. Not saying there isn't a problem with some of the installs I've read about on this forum, but I'm def satisfied (for now). We shall see in the spring when the rains come. Good luck to guys.

Well after all of this I am not unhappy with my install either. Of course I shouldn't of had to spend as much time reworking the tailgate end of the gasket but in the end I don't think I could really have asked for too much more.

Yes all the proper parts were there.

Yes there is a slight slope to the last section of the side rail cap.
    20160206_Bakflip level.jpg
The gasket causes the last section of the rail to ride up on the cap kick out. So I marked out cardboard template tracing the curve of the kickout.
    20160206_Bakflip template.jpg

Then I hit the rail with the heat gun for a bit to release the gasket adhesive. Once the gasket was free I re-routed it to follow the curve on the cardboard template. You will note the gasket does not go whole was to the end of the rail now that it must travel a greater distance. Maybe this will be a problem later, maybe it won't.
    20160206_Bakflip gasket.jpg

Other than the slope to the rail leaving not even 1/32 of a gap I think it's sitting about as good as it's gonna get. As the weather warms up I will try to readjust the back mounts and snug them up on the gasket more
    20160206_Bakflip corner.jpg
    20160206_Bakflip corner 2.jpg

I think the whole gasket rework took me about and extra 45 minutes to measure, mark up a template, cut it out and move the gaskets.

With all the people getting wrong parts, incomplete parts, damage parts and then compounding it with the bed rail issue if I hadn't of gotten such a sweet deal on this I would have returned it to wait for a more refined product. I fully understand those that did return it. I am glad I decided make some modification to finish the install. Hopefully it works well in the future.

It is nice to have the rails intact with the cover on and I like the low profile look.

With the cover folded up/open and my dirk bike rack extenders installed this is going to work perfect for my needs. Tomorrow I will tackle the cheapo remote tailgate lock install.

I'm guessing you were in on the group buy. I'm still waiting on mine. I know what you mean about being glad to have the discount for the trouble.

Nice install. Please report back with waterproof results.

Nope. No group buy. Had to do it Canadian lone wolf style... LOL. Buying anything out of the states right now sucks with the way the Canuck Pesos is doing.

If you don't mind me asking, if I wanted to remove the whole cover how hard is it to detach? I'd prefer not to fold up and block my review mirror if I'm using the full bed.

FedEx dropped off a replacement pair of rails for the Revolver X2 today. Weather was perfect for installing it, cool 66F and plenty of sunshine. Not being much of a DIY person, the install probably took me longer than it will take most. Took a drive to a local Harbor Freight to buy a T30 drive bit and a ratchet bit driver that would on the torque wrench I bought; cost roughly $38 for all the tools.

Good news is the delivery was a matching set, no defects, rubber seals in place. Bad news is I didn't get it perfectly evenly lined up. I'm probably going to leave it as shown below.. too much effort to do it over. Gonna take the Tacoma to get washed for the first time since I bought it back in December. Will post if the cover leaks.
