Well I hope mine fits correctly and comes with everything it needs. I'm glad you're happy with yours. But if I was to have those issues I'd send it back.

It's not like these covers are 300$ anymore. You paid good money and it should fit correct and be complete.

I wonder if they sent you rails for a 2nd gen, because it didn't have the flare in the bed cap like the 3rd gen.??

Ya they dropped the ball but I'm sure Bak will do what they need to to get it right. I like the way this thing looks and functions enough to wait a bit longer but if the new rails are f'ed up again, ill just move onto something else too.

Well he had six minutes to respond. To be fair...a golf ball will fuck up a lot of shit...a fiberglass topper won't even stand up to a golf ball or hail so that point is mute.

The seals are made out of an EPDM synthetic rubber in current models...not sure what they used five years ago.

    Troll away....run....run....:infantry:

PS - bitch don't kill my vibe. (Great song)

Edit: posted in wrong thread. Carry on.

Wow, my BakFlip I just installed looks exactly like your pictures with the rails not sitting flush on the last portion towards the tailgate on both sides. It also has the same look where the epoxy seems to fail between the metal rail and the rubber seal. I will have to call bak industries and see if they'll send me new rails as well.

They said they would overnight the missing hardware on Monday. Wednesday when no package came I called bak they gave me a fake tracking number. I called today they admitted sending economy snail mail instead of the over night. I'll receive it sometime next week.

Honestly I don't think they are doing it on purpose. They are all just really stupid.

Just installed my Bakflip G2 yesterday and my rails too look exactly the same as these photos. I just e-mailed Bak Industries as well. Hopefully they can get this squared away. It rained last night and I peeked in the bed this morning and it looks like I didn't even have a cover on it. Hopefully they'll stand behind their products, it certainly wasn't cheap.

Uh-oh... Mine G2 is in shipping to me right now. Hope it doesn't have the save issue.

Anyone have a G2 with properly fitting rails yet?

I installed mine yesterday. My rails don't sit flush either. I was thinking about water testing and going from there.

Revolver x2 still no shipping or tracking number. It's now going on 3 weeks.

Come Monday morning I'm going to cancel my 2 units and go with the gator fx5.

I have seen on fx5 on a new tacome. It fits perfectly. Nice and flush and no drama from gator on the product.

So as far as I understand the issue so far it may be that Bak is supplying rails that fit the 2nd Gen trucks. The 2nd Gens has a straight (or flat or true) cap of the top of the box side from cab to tailgate.

Looking at the pictures from this thread it appears the 3rd Gen cap on the top of the box side starts to 'lower' or change elevation in the back 1/4 of the bed toward the tailgate.

Somebody please stop me if I am heading in the wrong direction here.

Putting a 4' straight edge on the side cap of my 3rd Gen the section from the cab to about 3/4 of the way to the tailgate is true. The last 25% towards the tailgate does appears to be approx 1/8 to 3/16" lower. Of course a 4' straight edge is not as accurate as one that would sit the full length of the box rail but you get the idea.

For those that have new rails coming from Bak, did they mention how the new rails would be different? Are they pre-bent?

I am sure all those who have installed their rails so far are ensuring they have 'reasonably' forced the rails as far down before tightening them as possible.

I am not condoning having to alter or modify a brand new product but I have a few questions to those who have installed so far:
    1. The cover rail attachment S brackets have slotted holes in them. Has the full extent of that slot been used when 'forcing' down the rail before tightening in the last couple of S brackets?
    2. If the S bracket full slot has been used is there still room to open the slot up more on the last 2 brackets allowing for the back portion of rail to be lowered and sit closer to the bed rail cap or is it bolt bound already?
      1. yes this would bow the rail slightly but the cover may have some tolerance for this and optically my eyes didn't even detect there was as bend there on the bed cap to begin with.
Starting to think I should have just waited a few months for all the kinks to get worked out.

I think I was the first to notify them of this rail issue and dont think they are aware that it seems to be a design flaw rather then a one off thing that just happened to my rails so they are just shipping me the same rails.

Somebody from Bak will be calling me Monday morning. I guess I'll have to let them know its not just my rails. I'm planning on just returning this.

I water tested my Bakflip G2 today to see where the water was coming in from while washing the road salt off the truck. The top two corners- near where the foam inserts are placed on the head rail, the water just absolutely pours in. It's like there isn't even a cover there. The rest of the length along the sides drip a good bit. The back foot or so where the rails aren't contoured to the bed correctly the water flows in like there isn't even a seal there. I had the hose on the shower function to simulate a heavy rainfall. I ran the water for just a few seconds, and I already had puddles inside.
At this point, I want my money back. I don't see how even properly contoured rails will solve the water ingress from the other areas where the water is coming in from. If I put anything in the bed, it'll get just as wet as it would without the cover.
