Well said! For what it's worth, I once had a chronic issue that plagued the charging system of an older Ford Thunderbird. I had gone through the entire system including new battery, new alternator and new battery terminals. Yet, the battery would eventually be taxed by the rest of the car and get weak. I couldn't figure it out since everything tested good. This went on for months while I threw parts at it.

As it turns out, there was a braided ground cable that ran from the subframe to the engine block (via the driver's side engine mount). This ground cable was jacketed so I had no way of seeing the condition of the cable itself, until one day, in desperation of finding the problem, I cut away the shielding to reveal a braided copper cable that was so corroded with green goop that it looked like something that had been recovered from the wreck of The Titanic.
Leaving that particular ground cable in place, I simply bought a new 0 gauge cable and bridged another connection to supplement it. The charging system worked flawlessly from that point on.

The entire chain is only as strong as the weakest link.

    ^^

Agreed that the grounds are part of the system that cannot be overlooked. Always check your grounds.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever disconnect the battery completely, discharge any capacitors by stepping on the brake and reconnecting the battery and trying to start it?

Did you try jump starting it with another car’s battery? If that works your connections are fine. And it’s probably your alternator failing to recharge your battery

Just so that you know, in the future you might be able to accelerate the time between, "Oh shit" and "Nice!" by doing what I had suggested.

Just wanted to thank this thread. Had this issue last week after replacing the starter and battery within a week. My connections to the terminal block were loose, so I took the time to disconnect everything wire brush and reconnect. Now everything is working great, sometimes it is the zero cost maintenance related items. I was ready to replace starter to battery cable, very glad I read through the comments on this thread first.

    Welcome to the Forum!

Only a few people are still around from back then.

Glad you were able to figure things out.

At that age never hurts to change all the cables.
