So, I need a new battery, big believer in upgrading when things fail. What should I go with? Dual battery setup? Brands? Trays? Can't afford a nuclear reactor but anything else would be a welcome suggestion. Daily driver looking to retire to become a full time adventure vehicle. 2017 Tacoma, fully paid for with 60k miles.

My original brake pads are at 81K. Tires lasted over 60K. Shop just told me my battery is getting weak, but could replace it for 225.

I always replace my batteries with lithium. I get them from Batteries Plus and they have a built in jump pack so if I drain a battery camping, I can still jump the rig and get home. You can find cheaper ones on Amazon but I’ve never tried them.

I personally get my batteries at Home Depot. Exide. Good price & seems to be lasting a long time (4+years). Johnson Controls makes the OEM batteries in our trucks. Same brand as Autozone, Advance, Napa etc. Just different names. Always buy the best brake pads, "Gold", "Platinum" or whatever. Never cut corners on safety. ;) Good Luck!

This time around I may try the Toyota 84 month pro rated battery

I am trying out a group 27F AGM battery that I picked up from Batteries Plus (watch for sales and rebates). Dropped it in with a Gen 2 battery tray and an Off-Grid Engineering battery mount. Too soon to tell how life with this battery will be, but it should hold up better than the OEM unit it replaced (especially out on the trail).

Lots of threads here on the Tacoma charging system and AGM batteries. I hook up my charger every once in a while to play it safe.

Best bang for the buck is the Walmart AGM for $150.

If you want a 10 year+ battery, then one of these. High quality made in US&A.

Cool thread. These are the most useful for me. I am not into wheeling, but take my lightly modified way out into the middle of no where, so anything to help improve reliability is great.

This is always a fun subject. Most batteries are made by the same 3 companies: Johnson Controls, Exide, and East Penn. Oddessey batteries are pretty good and are actually not manufactured by the big 3. Otherwise, most are more or less the same, regardless of price. Walmart batteries are made by Johnson Controls who also makes Otima, Continental, Delkor, etc., so also not a bad choice.

Not sure how true but I have also heard that dual battery trays can create issues with cracking the metal the tray is attached to. I have also heard that the system does not like to charge AGM batteries to the proper voltage without modification. Food for thought.

That's TW folklore, as I've had my Wally world AGM for over a year, and it reads 12.9~13.1 volts a few minutes after I shut down the engine. 12.8 is a full charge.

Odyssey is a great brand. Made by Enersys right down the road from my house. They will (I have proof) last over 10 years if properly maintained and not allowed to fully discharge. Downfall is they are HEAVY!

I got a lithium last year for my Jetta. When my Duramax batteries died (forgot to plug it in for a couple weeks in the winter) I put the lithium in the truck and it started right up. Sold me for life right there!

Just get something made by east Penn that's with in your budget.
Batteries+ is a good place to go usually since Sears is pretty much out of business and sold off the Diehard name.
I had a Diehard platinum in the diesel Liberty I had that thing lasted over 6 years longer than any battery I've had. Was made by Odossey for sears then. Idk who makes them now.

This is what I'm using. OEM battery leaked and got this one out of warranty. Still running strong after a little over 4 years.
