2019 Toyota Tacoma bought in Dec. of 2018. Hot climate of AZ.

SO I tried starting my truck yesterday and I was getting the clicking/not turning over noise. Finally got it started, drove it briefly, turned it off, and got it to start again. Waited a few hours, and same clicking/no turn over.

This morning, same clicking and not starting. Hooked-up the jumper cables to my wife's car and my truck started right-up.

So I'm guessing a new battery is needed?

Based on my research, I need a 24F? A different size won't fit the tray correctly?

Do I need anything special? I see Costco has a Regular Interstate for around $109. They also offer one that has SUPERIOR AGM TECHNOLOGY for $179. Is that something I need?

Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are designed to offer ultimate performance for power-hungry luxury vehicles and vehicles with plenty of aftermarket accessories. If your car came with an AGM, or you find yourself regularly replacing your battery due to accessory power drain, look into an AGM today.

There's also an O'Reilly's near me. They want $179 & $199 for their batteries.

    Which do I want?

    Thanks.

Are you still within your 3yr/36k warranty period? If so, the battery is covered. My 2017 failed over a weekend, I went out and bought an AGM, then I was reimbursed by Toyota via a check in the mail.

Do you have a bunch of accessories running while parked, fridge or cooler, lights things like that, then an AGM might be an idea. If you don’t then a regular lead acid battery will be fine. I am lucky and still running the factory battery, coming up on 5 years.

Thanks though... need to look at it before a couple if trips coming up. This thread reminded me of that...

I would stick to the interstate traditional battery if it were me.

I have had good luck with the Costco batteries. Great pricing too.

If you have no unusual electrical loads, that battery will be just fine.

Not running anything special. Just standard equipment. My wife's going to Costco today. I'll have her check on battery availability.

    Thanks for all the info.

I still have my original 5-year old OEM battery, but moved it to the back corner as a 2nd one and got a new larger AGM one for the main. Those OEM batteries do well.

Living in a rural area, I use Napa for batteries so if I have a problem they are close by. They do have a special battery partnered with AAA (need to have a membership) where it’s three years full replacement warranty and after that it is prorated. I replaced my OEM at three years.

I had a Interstate in my GTI that I installed in 2007, died last December.

Imo, a Deka is very hard to beat for a lead acid battery. If they meet military specs., they have to be above average.

I totally with Zoo Truck -- DeKa is for sure my go to battery for the fleet of trucks that I work on.

I replaced mine after 4 years with a 27f Toyota true start for $125. I also got the 27f battery tray from the dealer. It's the tray for the 2015 with a tow package. I think for $175 total, 84 month warranty and the true starts are made by Johnson control who makes the interstate battery. The interstate battery truck delivers the Toyota branded battery. I think the 27f is the best size to go with as it has more cca and reserve than the 24f. I like keeping it as factory as possible.

while it's always fun to get new stuff, have you checked the battery terminals and see if they needed cleaning?

see it all the time where the battery isn't bad, it just needs a little love!

Battery took care of the problem.

It felt good doing something on the truck myself. I usually let the dealer overcharge me for this stuff due to just plain laziness. I actually started doing my own cabin and air filters for $30, vs. the dealer trying to charge me $100 plus. Lots of dirt and dust where I live. It seems every time I go in for service they want $$ to do those filters.

Here's the old negative side corrosion of the battery terminal. Not sure if that was enough to cause the issue?

The finished product. I usually have the dealer replace the battery every 3-4 years anyway based on my prior experience with batteries dying. I should probably check my wife's battery now.

    3-4 years?... you mean every 2-3 ... .. 3 at best.
Somebody outta come out with some kinda roof-top-solar-panel that takes the heat (pun intended) off these batteries.
Something to power some lights into the engine bay to keep mice away -
Something to power a mini-a/c-fan onto the battery -
Provide a bit of shock to the cats -
