So satisfying! Cranks and starts great with new battery.
2016 OEM replaced almost 5 years ago; now on 3rd.

My factory battery developed a bad cell at 30 months. Toyota gave me a free battery under warranty which is now 6 years old. Toyota batteries seem to be hit or miss.

I would not be happy if I was in my 3rd battery in only 8 years. Maybe it’s the climate I live in and/or my habits, but I don’t remember the last time I bought a battery. I have only owned this taco for 5 years, but I don’t remember replacing the battery in my 2001 Subaru that I owned for 15 years. I might have replaced it once and forgot about it.

I was propositioned not long ago by my local shop to replace my battery because it “failed a load test”. I politely told them that I will wait until it is truly dead. I consider a dead battery to be a minor inconvenience in most cases. I wonder how many people replace perfectly good batteries.

I buy new batteries for my 3 vehicles every 24 months.
    Period.
    Full stop.

Calendar is marked for June 1 of 2025.

I'm surprised those Minn Winters don't wear out the batteries the same as Arizona heat does.

Why do you replace your battery on a regular schedule? You could be throwing your money away.

Cold generally slows down chemical reactions, so it’s possible that batteries last longer in a cold climate, however I’ve never researched the question.

On the flip side, my 2020 has been parked in an underground garage at ~60-80F most of it’s life and the battery is still going strong.

We had 113 days in a row where temps hit at least 100.
71 of those days were 110+....

Trust me - you don't want to get caught outside in that especially with a bunch of cold foods you purchased at the store.
I played that game once with some ice-cream, it wasn't very pretty.

I have seen my windshield wipers melt onto the glass.
I've seen peoples rubber sneakers melt on the sidewalk.
People on drugs passing out on the sidewalk and suffering serious burns.

It ain't no joke out here.
You gotta know what you're up against, and nature will always win.

But - whilst the rest of the county suffers tornados, floods, ice storms, snow, we are outside enjoying ourselves.

    ps: don't move here...

All I have to leave you with is that you should seek out the experience of being stuck outside and unprepared when it is -20F. You will die much faster than caught outside in dry 110F heat.

Either way, storing a junp box or jumper cables in your truck to save you from either situation.

10 years pushing nuclear submarines around the globe taught me that you replace critical components before they fail, not after.

When I hit the 5 year point with a car battery, it gets replaced regardless. And it's not like this is an expensive item here. But then again what the hell do I know.

But it’s not a catastrophe if an automobile battery dies. You can jump or push start and be on your way.

Also a perfectly good battery can become uncharged for external reasons. For example, severe cold weather can weaken an otherwise good battery enough to prevent the automobile from starting. Albeit this is a less common issue in these modern days, possibly because of the use of low viscosity oils.

Maybe I just grew up different. In my teens I was dealing with dead batteries on a regular basis. On multiple occasions I push started my 1981 Datsun pickup without getting out of the driver seat. I just gave it a few good pushes with my left leg and popped the clutch.

It certainly can be. I don't put myself or my wife in that position ever. But you do you brother.

TBQH, the last time I remember having to jump or push start my automobile was in the 1980’s. I could be forgetting an instance, because it was not memorable. However, I have jump started other people’s cars many times. I still have the same jumper cables I bought in the 1980’s. It’s on my shopping list to get buy a jump box and retire the jumper cables.

My OEM battery on my 2016 was always collecting corrosion on the + post and i would have to clean it off.
My Costco battery about 3 years old never one bit of corrosion.
Like you say, hit or miss

In my experience, Battery terminal/post corrosion/buildup isn’t generally a problem unless it gets really bad and your battery is really weak. I did have a bad case on my boat where it disintegrated some auxiliary copper wiring attached to the terminal.

I still have a battery post/terminal wire brush cleaner in my toolbox, but haven’t used it since my youth when I was too poor to buy new batteries.
