I really like the height of your rack. Leaves space for equipment and also keeps from causing too much wind resistance. Awesome.

It's been a while since someone commented here, but I have to say this is the best rack design that I've seen for our trucks. The bedsides don't have the strength to stand up to the abuse of a loaded rack over time. Good job!

yeah thanks for reviving this, very cool rack. Love the tiedowns, OP definitely is a problem solver. Wonder if Justin has any updates for it or things that he would change after putting it through a lot of use... it's already the best bed rack I've seen

Just noticed this got revived! I have made a few additions to the rack this camp season. I just took the tent and rack off for the fall/winter since we wont have any more camp time this year. I will try to post up some pics of the mods though.

Here are a few updated pics of the bed rack from this camp season. Added a couple attachment points for mounting my bike rack and hi lift/second bike rack along the bed rails outside of the rack to conserve bed space and provide easy access to the lift with the bed loaded. Also added a few spots to hook the tent compression straps to to make things a little easier to pack up.

Thanks man, uploaded a few update pics. Haven't really wanted to change anything about the build yet other than the few additions I made this season. I imagine there will be more things in the future that get added but as for the design and dimensions as a whole I have been very happy with it for the past 3 summers now.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Damn, didn't realize this went straight into the bed bolts, that's awesome. I like the tie-down rings too.

Yeah figured that was the easiest and strongest way I could figure to mount it. No new holes in the bed and directly loads the frame rails instead of the bedsides or any other plastic. Dont have to worry about it even bouncin around off the highway :D

Thanks. Work shop obviously... its a little ridiculous actually. Love it!

    Where'd you source the tube?

    Great design and fab work!

Definitely going to bulild something similar.. Like how it doesn't rely on the bedsides to support the weight of the loaded rack.

Four more weeks...Stoked to pick up my RTT!

Awesome work! Quick question, any particular reason you didn't make it the same height as the cab?

I made mine and I am moving some things around so my tent overhangs off the back instead of the front. Also had planned on putting some extra tie downs in like you did but didn't think about doing that many. Brilliant idea, I was just going to use the corners! Pretty similar design to the one I came up with (which I took bits and pieces from others designs).

My extra height was intentional so the lines would match once I get a cab rack system put together.

Thanks, got the tube from Morse Steel in B'Ham. Carlson Steel is a bit cheaper usually, I'd check them out. I used Morse because they deliver to my work for free and thats where I did the fab so it is convenient and worth the little extra. Its tough to haul 20' sticks of material.

I just wanted to try to reduce the drag a slight bit by tucking at least some of the tent behind the cab. We travel a lot of miles on the highway typically on our road trips so i figured any little bit would. Not sure it makes a noticeable difference in mpgs. I also like the overall look better personally.

The trick to getting good mpgs after the addition of a tent our size takes months of foresight. You have to unintentionally leave your crappy k&n air filter in place for about 6 months prior. THEN, when you put the tent on, switch to an AFE Pro dry S filter same day and watch your mpgs increase! Haha I think I gained 3 mpg when I put the tent on.
