If you scrolled down a bit to the next post he states he’s 4x2. I made that mistake thinking he was 4x4

Pulled the trigger on the rear 8100s paired with the Deaver J66. Hoping the combination of being an Access Cab SR 2WD (lighter curb than most), no accessories or payload, and “built-in” bumpstop reasons the soft Deaver J66 choice.

You wont be disappointed but paired with RXT leaf pack and 6112s 712F497C-2DB5-49C2-A196-6B0430D525D1.jpgF68437EB-EE30-47F0-8009-4585DDEB0DE5.jpg

Looks nice! Thanks for the pics!

How do they ride, and have you been playing around with the compression and rebound?

I have not actually. Same setting from factory. I’ve been meaning to increase rebound and kinda just tinker with the setting. They ride significantly better than the 5160s.

8112 in the future. The 6112s pair very nice with them.

Are these digressive like other Bilsteins? It is my understanding bypasses are usually progressive.

They say the primary piston is digressive in the 8112 video.

What about running 8112's with 5160's?

I think he’s correct. Upgrade the rear first. It cycles more than the front.

I was thinking about doing the above set up. I don't really offroad that much and want a little lift in the front and a better on road ride. I've had 5100's sitting the box for 2 years almost, just didn't think they would be much of an upgrade from stock offroad bilsteins.

I never tried 5100s. I went straight to 6112/5160 and it is absolutely night and day from stock OR, especially if you have armor or other additional weight. Sounds like 8112/8100 is just as significant an improvement from my setup.

Ya, that's why I was wondering about the mix match.

Installed 8100 rear shocks and Deaver J66 yesterday. Will wash and take after pics of the lift a little later. Here are some shots...

I see you are in MI, aka road salt haven. I would coat them in Sharkhide, or some other protectant. My 5160's look like crap corroded in a couple months, even with washings every week. Just a suggestion. Bilstein zinc finish doesn't hold up in salt belt.

No it’s was just the 5160s. For whatever reason 5160s finish is not coated the same like the other setups. 6112s still look great. No rust issues.

Any rust remover can knock that stuff off. If I had the 5160 again I would paint or spray that area with something as those are he only 2 spots that were a concenrn when I owned them.

But yes I would still coat the 8112s with something as it wouldn’t hurt. AFAIK ADS and Bilstein use Zinc and does better than any setup in the salt.

The aluminum bodies on mine are completely corroded/dull. They look exactly like your exhaust in your previous post, showing your 8100's installed. Plan on removing in spring and cleaning/polishing them. If doesn't work, will replace/paint them. Maybe install 8100,s. Mine are the 15 trd pro suspension.

P.S. Nice set up, you have

Any other components I should consider coating?

Does washing the underbody weekly help? Or twice weekly?

Jaxx has a 21.99/month deal for unlimited car washes. Seems everyone recommends that here to limit the underbody rust. Wondering if I should be combining weekly washings, underbody power washing, and coating.

I wash/underbody flush truck after every use, not daily driver. The Bilstein 5160's still corroded very bad. I wish I would of coated them before install. Sharkhide is the best thing I have found for aluminum. Thought they would of been ok, since Bilstein claims they are zinc coated. As for Sharkhide I have two Aluma trailers, 1 open, 1 enclosed. Both coated with Sharkhide and they look brand new after 5+ years. Also pontoon boat coated with it and no sign of discolor on aluminum.
