I understand that, but I've seen people on here who are all pissed off because they've gone through multiple blowers from the dealer. I'd rather save myself the frustration and wasted time by installing an aftermarket blower. To me it's worth the money.

If a ticking/chirping blower motor is the only thing wrong with your truck, consider yourself lucky. No new vehicle is perfect.

So basically I would not go to the dealer and have them install the same faulty part repeatedly. If they had a redesigned blower motor, that's different :p

That is what this thread is about the new blower assy. PG1 of this thread I informed of the following:
05-11 assemblies 8710304040 - 8710304042 have different hardware connecting the fan to the motor which includes a compression spring and the 8710304043 has a bolt connecting the fan to the motor.

Ive been fiddling with grease/clean maintenance on this assembly/blower/motor on my brand new 2011 truck for 11 months including trips to dealer that were equally without remedy.

I'm truly opeful this bolted fan will finally be The Answer for us all

Tnx to all who've posted along this LONG journey...

I just went to the dealer on Tuesday about my blower motor. It has been making the chirping noise and it is now a different noise. In the last few weeks the motor has started to cut off so I decided it was time to get it fixed.
The service adviser said the blower motors are made in China and the tsunami is delaying them getting here. There is another truck in front of me that has had a new one on order for 2 weeks.
I have found if the motor cuts off to just tap on it from under the dash and it has kicked back on.

Next time this happens, resist the urge to kick it and see if it still works when you put the fan on high. If it does, there is another TSB related to this concern. They will need to replace a wire going to the blower motor resistor with a pigtail.

See attatched PDF file for TSB.

When it cut off it would not work at any speed. Even tried going to different settings, defrost, floor, etc...
Thanks for the heads up on the other TSB. I may ask them to do that as well when it goes in.

After 4800 miles mine starting squeaking, they changed it when they did the 5k service. Not two weeks later it started again, but worse. I took it back and they put another new one in. Been 3 weeks and about 700 miles. So far so good. Maybe I got a new one this go-round.

Tex, it sounds to me like the dealer is giving you a line of crap. The Tsunami was in Japan...not China?

I'd love to see a tear down of the new fan to know if it's any different.

    None but soon......
Had mine replaced for the second time about three weeks ago. This time with the latest part number ending in 43 rather than 42. No noise yet so I think they finally have it fixed!

Purchased in Tacoma in July '10 ... 1st blower motor replaced March '11 with original part (#87103-04042).

Went in today (Dec '11) for 15,000 service ... mentioned that motor began chirping again ... one hour later new motor (#87103-04043).

Checkered Flag Virginia Beach ... second to none ... they know customer service.
