Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Got my setup from SOS, great customer service and continued follow up over the period of a year.

the backing plates are what make the parking brake possible. There are two pieces to them. The larger plate mounts using three of the four bolt holes and houses the majority of the drum parking brake setup that is utilized on the inside of the 4Runner rear disc. Yes, more drum retainer springs. The other backing plate section is less than a quarter in size and closes up the back while providing a small ridge to offset the adjuster assembly for the drum shoes. There is a small (.125”) gap between the two backing plates when mounted together. The rear shoe must slide across this gap as part of the design. It isn’t a big deal but they MUST be flush and completely inline with each other for this to happen properly. Mine needed a small bit of convincing (roughly 1/16”) to align properly. The rear shoe kept hanging up on the ridge and dragging on the drum after release. This drove me crazy because you can’t see this with the disc mounted. I recommend mounting both backing plates first to ensure a solid inline and flush gap between the two. Utilize the brake grease accordingly where the shoes rub and no issue. You will need to ensure you install all of the spacers in order for the cable to have enough leverage as well, otherwise you be to the floor with little to no bite on the drum. This parking brake has significantly less friction surface area over stock or any drum setup for that matter. The small inner drum parking brake has half the radius and a much smaller shoe than a full size drum setup. Good luck!!
