I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
Just about wrapped up a CV reboot job, not 100% due to my work schedule and I know you might ask why? I get it buy a shaft, it’s a mess, etc..

Well I’m currently in pursuit of a small noise that recently developed on 4Runner, swapping wheel bearings (thanks @05Taco4x4 ) gave me a good reason try to address my torn inner CV boots..

Wondering if anyone else is running these kits from Dobinsons? You kind of have to reboot something I suppose as I don’t think they come on anything but they seem well made and were at what I thought to be a reasonable price, I know a lot of people go with OEM but I’m interested to see how these work out!

Dobinsons High Clearance Outer CV Boot Kit for Toyota and Lexus

Swap went pretty good actually, followed a write up from a 4Runner forum with tons of pics and got lots of info here! Based on this write up, others, and seemingly lots of other videos, I didnt take apart outer joint, hoping that’s not a mistake?? o_O

Came up with this little idea for a few dollars at Lowe’s because I don’t have a boot stretcher tool or cone style tool but this makes more sense to me anyways super clean and easy! Hopefully I’m not missing something here. not trying to make some write up but thought I might share this detail..

^Unnecessary work in my opinion. The OEM outer boot was never an issue at higher angles. The inner boot pleats can touch each other at higher angles, but that's easily resolved by the boot slide mod, way easier to do than attempting to stretch undersized boots to fit.

I don’t disagree the outer was never the issue, just did anyways. I don’t know that it was ton more work, messy for sure.. correct me if I’m wrong but slide boot mod would have still required pulling and removing tripod, you are pretty much there. Also would still be buying boot kits, like I said we will see how it goes!!

^Boot slide mod is done in-situ. Just pull the small end of the boot out a little past its normal designated spot and recinch the clamp: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-cv-boot-mod.190669/

As I did on my truck on factory boots:

The benefit here is you can use stock replacement boots from e.g. Beck Arnley on Rock Auto. They fit easily without the need for stretching on a collar tool.

I follow with the mod,not sure 100% if you are saying you did it on the truck or if my situation would have saved me too much.. my factory boots were in two pieces! I also deleted my needle bearing so driver shaft was removed lol The inner boot required no stretching on this set, slid right on, just outer is a little snug

I thought you had to stretch both boots with the PCV pipe tool. Never mind then, carry on
