So I finally replaced the disintegrated shift bushings in my 2003 Pre-Runner. It shifted and drove fine but I couldn’t get the ignition key out. I disconnected one of the two electrical connections under the console and it came out fine. I did not have a check engine light come on so can I leave that disconnected or should I replace something else and reconnect. Thanks

    something binding
the shifter not returning to 'key release' position

try gently forcing the shifter to park(dont Hulk It)
see if key can be removed with pressure applied to shifter

if so, check your bush work

Thats really all up to you. If it were me I would get it to work properly as it should.

Thanks guys. I went back in and made sure the white piece (not sure what it’s called) was reinstalled properly and now the key comes out no problem.
