Yeah winter sucks. You know what also sucks? Not being able to afford a home if you don't make 150k or even 200k a year. Insane competition for schools, and schools that aren't even that good (if you have children). Poor infrastructure. Homeless people everywhere. Draconian gun laws. Traffic (the bay area is getting to be as bad as LA).

I get that we're piling on California and people have a right to be defensive. But the "shit people say for $1000" are real problems so I'm asking you in a polite way fuck off.

It's crowded enough. Glad it's as expensive as it is. There wouldn't be elbow room at the beach otherwise

That is fucking retarded. We bought the farm that borders ours in November of last year, and paid just over 500k for 263 acres with about 160 of that under pivot.

Welcome to the sunshine state. And the reason I'm moving out. I'd never be able to afford my own house until I was like 40 and have a girlfriend/wife to pay for part. I'll hopefully be owning my own house in a few years in Carolina.

500k won't get you a good house in the bay area. Maybe a mobile home. Or a condo. Don't forget, whatever the list price, tack on around 20% to take into account bidding (high demand). My coworker found that out the hard way. They budgeted a certain amount but had to fight other bidders.

In north and South Carolina we have a property tax but it goes down each year. No inspections in SC but yearly in N.C.
