Can someone summarize the military shipping issue so I don't have to read too far back please.

Disclaimer: the site makes nothing from the vendors on here, but they do help the members most of the time. Brian quickly setup the 3% discount code when I PM'd him so he's trying to be helpful, IMO.

before we burn the stakes, can't we acknowledge that Brian probably hasn't had opportunity to raise this concern and receive a reply yet.

What a lame policy. I will not do business with or recommend it, with a company that won't ship to APO. I mean come on.

I'm a veteran and will not support a company willfully breaking a law that supports our troops. With that said, I don't think anyone would expect an instant change. However, the OP and the dealership could indicate they are looking into the issue in effort to rectify the problem. I understand they probably have some reason for not shipping to APO's, and were most likely not aware of the law when this thread was created. Since they are now aware of it, it needs to be rectified ASAP.

Thanks to everyone who summarized the APO situation. I'll talk to Brian about it...hopefully something can be done about it.

Okay, I just got off the phone with my brother, and he's telling me that the refusal to ship provision was never added to the law in 2003 as discussed. So the act only applies to contracts, employment, and leases, while providing additional protections to deployed members. They never added the cultural items because it didn't seem necessary - everyone was all "do it for the troops."

Refusing to ship to an APO is not against the law based on the civil relief act. They just can't screw over a GI in an automotive lease while they are deployed.

There are significant restrictions in what may be shipped to an APO, but this is based on safety and cultural sensitivity. Alcohol, tobacco, firearms (the ATF trinity), porn, lithium batteries, and anything flammable are banned. Most car parts would be perfectly acceptable shipments.

Refusing to ship to an APO is their prerogative. So...it's up to us to convince them to do otherwise.

It's easy to get riled up over this - it does indeed seem like "there oughta be a law" - but let's allow our friends at Camelback Toyota to get caught up on this thread, look up the rules on shipping to an APO (and how it's no extra cost, even through FedEx), and make a long-overdue update to their shipping policy.

In all honesty, APO shipments would probably be less than 1% of their shipped orders anyway.

    Thanks all.
