Yes, if you bring a high cap mag into california you have commited a crime. If you go to another state say, Nevada (reno has an awesome gun show) most of the time they will want to see your ID and if they don't you will commit a crime by transporting illegal products across state lines. If you have a high cap mag in california and cannot show you owned the firearm it beloged to before the ban was enacted you are a criminal. I have a couple high cap mags, I just don't load more than 10 at the range and don't carry at all in the field. Do not get caught with them or you may find yourself in a situation where the state of CA will no longer allow you to own a weapon oh and you will probably get a fine and some community service (I heard a guy talking about how it happened to him while I was at the gunsmiths. He was attempting to fight it). And to answer your other question; the ability to fire any more than 10 rounds is fun and according to the senetors and congress people you elected into office fun and firearms don't mix. Just green and liberal. Damn hippies

This is not correct. You can have any mag you want, as long as you bought it before 1999. Also, the burden of proof is on the BATF, not the owner.

you can always buy replacement "hi cap" mag parts though (to replace those mags that you planned ahead and bought pre 1999 and that have rusted). You can buy the mag body, follower, and spring separate, then put them together. this is what I dis for my M14 clone. Your running a HUGE risk running them over the border -- esp if you buy them at gun shows. The BATF watches transactions and take down plate numbers at these shows. They will pull you over on the cal side and off to jail for you.

If you get caught using a hicap mag in a pistol you purchased 2 years ago and have no registered firearms before the ban it's illegal. NOW Thats what the guy at the gunshop told me, I have 2 preban 9mm baretta mags and am not willing to fight the ATF over it.

edit: I did not own any weapons before the ban.

yes. Also, if you have any weapons with both a detachable Mag and a pistol grip. You will need to store those out of state as well or get rid of them all together. There are also some minor modifications that you can do to your AR, FAL, AK, etc. that make the mag not "readily detachable" and thus legal in this state. I have an AR that is modified in such a way.

Total BS. Go tell that guy he doesn't know what he is talking about. If you have 'hi cap' mags that you owned pre 1999, they are grandfathered in, and are thus legal in california regardless if you owned the related firearm or not. There was a MASSIVE run on 'hi cap' mags right before the 'ban'.

If I'm not mistaken you are in LE? There are lots of little loopholes that cover that.
I've thought of other places to live but because my wife has 10 more years to work before she retires I'm stuck here. I also ride 200+ miles a week on my bikes and enjoy riding along the beach year round.
Since I've lived here since 1963 it's home to me.
I just wish every time a Republican moved out of Kalifornia they were required to take 2 DIMs with them.;)

technically...yes...but im not at the federal level so i think that carrying past an adjoining state poses some issues as it is...

not that it matters because im not real interested in going that far but i was just wondering...

Your saying that a mag. had better not be stamped "military or law enforcement only" and everything that was included in the now sunset clinton assault weapons ban is still in effect in CA, correct?;)

The hell we don't. Losing people like tigerfan00 to other states is why we are outnumbered by actors and big city liberals here.
    We NEED backup.
Inspite of the laws we do have however there aren't patrols of gun-grabbing cops going door to door looking for my 11 round mag or the AR-15 I had to register as an assault weapon. at least in my case as a middle aged white guy.
My most loyal 2nd ammendment supporting friends are those I compete with and have a few beers with after the match that are mostly LE.

Just a thought. I've got a lot of LE friends that I shoot with as well.

Question is, if it gets to going door to door with a new white house and new laws in a few years, what then?

LE personel with ten years to go, till retirement and the 401K and benefits, gets the order to go door to door rounding up stuff because it's now the law.

You had better have a good hiding place for your contraband.
