Diesels don't need HP to be quick. The torque is what makes them so fun. But IMO the ecodiesel is a little underpowered in the 1500Ram.

I saw the Colorado in person at the Orange County Auto Show. It's actually a lot bigger than I was expecting. I think it's pushing the boundary of "mid size" to more of an "upper mid size" IMHO...

It's not a bad looking truck, and has lots of nice technology toys that I wouldn't mind having in my Taco.

That being said, I'd NEVER trust a GM product as far as I can throw it... I don't need to drop big $$$ on a truck that might have Dex Cool or rusted brake lines or bad intake manifold gaskets or failed instrument clusters or... (etc)

If I was going to own a different pickup, it would be Ford. GM is more imported than even Toyota. Ford is the most American-made truck on the market.

Well thankfully the Tacoma's never have had frame rust, leaf spring failures,
electrical issues in the cab, windshield noise, paint issue, starter, drive line shudder, etc.....

That's good to hear! I'm glad I bought the right truck then and not the GM P.O.S.!

Old news there, but more will probably come, I went to look at one and got a kick out of them talking it up but oh no test drive until it's fixed.

As far as how big the things are, pretty much a fullsize just not as wide, in my picture here that Colorado is parked right next to a 2014 Silverado.

I almost hate so say this but the only excitement I felt was when a sales guy outside when I walked up said he had both on the floor after I asked him if any had arrived.

First impression, the Colorado, the very first thing that came to mind was " Wow,,,,,,,,, that thing is bigger than I thought to expect. It really is 80+% of a full size truck. It was a quad cab long bed. The top if the tailgate must be nearly 5 foot tall. Really high and so is the rest of the truck. No, it wasn't a Z71 or even a 4X4, just a lightly trimmed LS model that stickered for $26.6K and it had the 6 cyl in it. Cloth seats,,,,,,didn't even bother sitting in it but I sat a bit in the Canyon. I'll get back to that.

The fit and finish looked good both in and out. The paint quality was there (some metallic red color) and I while not "inspecting" it flaws also didn't see any. I looked a little closer than a casual looksie. I wasn't blown away with either interior. They are OK, but the gauge cluster could be a lot better. I never liked looking at gauges tucked deep within a hole so to speak. The Colorado and the Canyon have just about the same dash as far as I could tell. The steering wheels are different and I think I like the Canyon's more.

I had seen somewhere that the Drivers Information Center between the speedo & tach has a monochrome display in the Colorado and a Color on in the Canyon. I didn't have a chance to notice. The rear ends sit on top of the leafs as opposed to my X-Runner at lease that is perched from above the springs. The brakes on both seemed decently sized with the Canyon at least running 4 piston looking fronts and single piston rear. No sway bar on the Chevy, didn't look at the Canyon for that.

The seats in the canyon that I sat in were OK for the short time I sat in there. They were heated black leather with a "modest" amount of bolstering. 3 on a 10 scale for the seats feeling aggressive. Good diameter steering wheels, not little car small, not Tacoma Big either.

The Chevy had the largest diameter driveshaft in aluminum I've ever seen on a production vehicle, but I admit I don't typically look for those things either. The drive shaft had to have been 5 inches in diameter. I didn't expect to see that. It tapers down at the u-joint yoke.

I caught the salesman in a minor information error having to do with the rear end ratios but he seemed knowledgeable overall. I thanked him for his patience with him knowing that I'm maybe a year off from replacing what I currently have. I will recall my brief visit more so later on, I'm sure.

My local Chevy dealer got a Canyon DCLB on the lot, and I took it for a short test drive. It was a top trim level model, with leather heated seats, nav, automatic temp control, Bluetooth, automatic 4WD... and factory remote starter.

    • Truck doesn't feel larger than the Taco when driving. All-around visibility is as good or better than the Taco's. I had no problems negotiating the tight dealer parking lot.
    • Interior materials is a step up compared to the Taco, particularly in the door trim.
    • Floor is lower than the Taco's but the seat cushion is at the same level, so you end up sitting more upright. To me this is less comfortable than the Taco's car-like arrangement.
    • Pedal arrangement is poor - brake pedal protrudes too far compared to the gas pedal.
    • Seats are comfortable with good lateral support. Interestingly, there's powered height, fore-aft and lumbar adjustment, but manual recline.
    • There is more sound deadening and NVH insulation than the Taco.
    • There's a rocker switch on the shift knob for manual shifting. Works OK.
    • By seat of the pants, acceleration feels slower than the Taco.
    • Oil filter is cartridge-type, accessible from the top of the engine next to cyl #2 on the driver's side.
    • There's potential space for a 2nd battery.

You think the Colorado won't have these problems, in addition to other powertrain and electrical issues?

There is also only a DCLB at the lot here in Jackson MI too.... I think they're only pushing that model because they're literally trying to cater to the 'i want a cheap fullsize' market instead of actually playing the game adn competing with the small trucks.

Also they have some dumb options. Green Canyon... can't get that with the Z71 package, no clue why....
