This. If they can make a diesel appropriately sized for a Jetta, they can make a diesel for a midsize pickup. It will probably be one of the two diesels offered in the international Colorado since last year.

I like it kinda.....Alot more then the previous pictures that came out. But 3 things that stick out...

    1. I think the front end is kinda big and gives it a horse mouth look

    2. the windorw on the doors need to be bigger because it looks like minivan doors haha.

    3. looks bloated like the tundra...alot of new cars are getting this look.

This truck will probably be wider and heavier than the Taco. Only so much you can do to hide the bulk.

    Fair enough.

And no, I don't think a diesel is overkill compared to the V8. What major advantage does the V8 give you? Couple hundred lbs more towing? While I've never been huge on the we need diesel midsize trucks bandwagon and dont think it will sell as many as some think given the option between adding a V8 or adding a 4cyl diesel the diesel makes much more sense. You're not losing any capability as far as towing and you're going to see substantially better fuel economy. They should have no problem getting 30mpg hwy out of a diesel Colorado.

    First impressions IMO
MPG looks to be best in class and the 300HP is a huge plus. Waiting on diesel specs.
Looks to have disc brakes at all four corners
Metal bed, cargo light in third brake light
Looks to have a deep bed, better for hauliing taller items, good technology offered/safety
not sure about everything else until I see it in person. I thought the new silverado looked ok on the internet but I didn't care for it at all in real life.

Anyone notice the rear of the roof? Looks to be a spoiler intergrated in the body.

It's a small diesel... It's far from overkill in a mid-sized truck. Diesels are put in small vehicles all the time. It's not overkill if it's properly sized for the vehicle.

Probably similar in function to the lip on the tailgates. Intended for aerodynamics.

Have to say I think you're right about diesel vs V8. Just a stab, but perhaps part of it might be having to have Toyota mechanics learn how to service the diesel. Maybe not a big deal but just another thing to think of.

I myself don't care about either diesel or V8 since I wouldn't use my truck for towing. Quite the opposite, I'm the homeowner who hauls stuff home here and there or helps my friends if needed. I drive at least 40 miles a day so I want something that will not kill me at the gas pump

Manufactures make overkill engines all the time. The base model viper comes with an 8.4l I believe :D

As is the bed light built into the 3rd brake light, projector headlights, beam wipers, torsion-bar balancing spring in the tailgate, bumper step...

    And mudflaps are optional. :stirthepot:

To be fair I think the projectors are on the Z71 and not the LT or WT

Yeah... just like the same little flap Toyota started putting in front of the front tires on the Tacoma.

The more I read, the better this truck looks.

Best in class payload, best in class fuel economy, 6,700 lbs tow rating, diesel, fully boxed frame.

It's pretty much everything anyone here (and most other forums) has asked for, except no manual gearbox option.

Pretty much what I'm thinking too.

I hope it has a bit more room in the rear seats than the tacoma.

The competition is great for us loyal taco owners, now they might listen to what we want a little more; payload, better mpg, torque, diesel etc. I know too many people that refuse to drive a Japanese product, even though it's made in San Antonio TX lol, that will jump in the chevy/gm no questions asked. The ford fanboys won't though, they despise the whole bailout and GM products more than we do. I think it looks great, and they fixed the front bumper of the international model to look more like a truck. All the international trucks like the Hilux, LP, Ranger etc have the uggly car like front end to pass euro pedestrian crash standards.

As far as the new diesel option being offered by GM, Ram and Nissan I will wait to see each engine reach 100k miles and a couple of years before even thinking about buying. All the extra exhaust, electronic and urea stuff to meet California(CARB) emissions seems to have a major effect in reliability with new diesels from VW's to the domestic HD's. The #'s will be great and will kill the Taco with 30mpg+ HW, low range torque but won't win any drag race like most Americans like. It's a win win for us really. Lets not forget the new Ford Ranger and the fact that their 5cyl diesel engine is here already in 1 of their smaller vans, will they respond?

I pointed out the "mini-flap" as a joke. It's obviously there to reduce drag and not to catch mud. Tires apparently cause a lot of drag. For example, the Taco with 245 tires has a cd of 0.39. With 265 tires, the cd jumps to 0.42.

The Colorado has another drag-reducing feature - a disgusting front airdam that appears in only one of the publicity images:

It was already present on prototype trucks:

GM puts that on most of their trucks. I bet it comes off pretty easy.
