Overkill? I want the biggest engine toyota can cram in there. But yes it needs to be fuel efficient and economical too.

Overkill.... pshh... starting to sound like the "prius world" over here.

    Why would it be overkill?
You'd get better MPG out of a V8 than a V6 if you're towing, or driving aggressively.

At 22/32 mpg might be something to look at depending on price . with current driving habits and equipment on truck 4cyl taco giving us 18-19mpg.

Chevrolet sources also hint that another transmission choice may become available shortly after launch, but declined to furnish specifics other than to say that a manual gearbox is unlikely.

This is a show stopper for me! I love a manual transmission and will not drive a pedal pusher.

Those who mention a manual option, Gm stopped offering it on the last Colorado, cargo lights in the TBL have always been a Colorado option and the only thing i really miss from my 05 Colorado that the Tacoma doesn't have. Im really surprised on the 2.5 and 3.6 engines choices since they are car engines and GM just lectured everyone at the silverado release stating we build truck engines for our trucks and car engines wont cut it. Diesel is pretty cool but wont be available until 2016, so if the new Tacoma launch is 2015 maybe they could bring a diesel to the segment first? Also no rear locker on the z71 I saw someone asked about that, just the same ole G80 option Chevy has always had.

I bet there won't be any manual transmission for the 2015 Tacoma or whenever they decide to redesign current one either. I could see it happen still with the 4 cylinder regular or access cab, but I would be really surprised if they offered it still for the V6 and double cab as they do now with the current truck. I would imagine same goes for Frontier, Colorado etc. I hope I'm wrong.

Here's my two cents on the 2015 Colorado.

I have a 2007 Tacoma with 232K miles. Honestly it has been the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. I am going to the keep the truck but am ready to buy something else. If you look at the new 2014 Tacoma it's the same darn thing I own. That is why I WILL NOT buy another Tacoma until they update it. Same truck since 2005 means Toyota is lazy and miking a design and shoveling profits in to the bank and laughing at everybody that keeps buying them.

As a consumer I have to ask why should I settle for a truck that was designed 8-9 years ago? Well, I won't do it. I love my Taco but it's time for Toyota to step up to the plate.

Updated Tacoma should include these features as options or standard:

    four wheel disc brakes
    HID lights
    power sliding rear window
    Heated Leather seats (not softex)
    heated steering wheel
    Diesel engine
    V6 direct injection
    Sunroof
    Garage Door transmitter
    Fuel economy display
    blindspot monitoring
Towing capacity at 7,000 or more
    locking tailgate
    soft touch materials interior
    power seats

I realize not everybody wants all of this stuff but I should not have to buy a full size truck to get some creature comforts. It would be my preference to stay with Toyota but it's time to step up to the plate or they just might be surprised that loyalty only lasts so long. Doing nothing for nine years is not a good recipe for longevity. I thank Chevy for making the Colorado.....as it will breed competition and when that happens the consumer wins.

I'm curious as to why you want those 2 things.

Drums suck. Period. Hate working on them, hate adjusting them, hate the fact that you have to pull the drum off to check wear.

Blind spot monitoring is lame though, I don't trust those systems.

I like the looks and specs of the engine choices. I look forward to the new competition for the Tacoma

    The better coast
Disks require the right pads. Toyota would probably pull a Honda and put shitty pads on. easy enough to swap out though.

    JoeA,

I do agree the Tacoma is completely outdated. I dont think anyone here thinks that it is a fresh design or engine. The truck is 9 years old with a 11 year old engine (2003 4Runner).

I too will never buy another Tacoma until it is a significant step up from the current model. I will also be looking to get into another newer pickup in the next year or 2, and with the current choices I would get into a 2014 Sierra.

The Taco just feels outdated inside, but even more mechanically. The engine feels sluggish, manual tranny is notchy and loud. Even the suspension doesn't seem refined compared to the full size trucks now adays.

All it has going for it IMO is the flawless reliability and the fact that is the perfect size and zero competition.

That's a load of PR crap. Even Toyota shares engines between cars and trucks. The 4.6L V8 in the Tundra is also in the Lexus LS460, though the LS version has direct injection.

Not sure if this has been posted here before but they just announced the 2015 Colorado / Canyon. Highlights from the article at Autonet - http://bit.ly/I4gVwH

    • Optional 2016 engine will be a Duramax 2.8L I-4 turbo diesel avaiable at all trim levels
    • The standard engines will be a base 2.5L I-4 (193 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque - 90% is available at a low start rpm of just 2,000) and a 3.6L V6 (302 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque)
    • Both engines matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
    • The V6 with the tow package will pull 3,039kg (6,700 lb)
    • Each model will offer 17-inch aluminum wheels

Too early to tell, it is a GM. Hopefully Toyota responds with something out of the box but I'm not counting on it. Probably a refreshed grill plate for 2015...

Would be interesting to see the fuel economy of the diesel. According to the Australia Toyota site the Hilux Double Cab diesel gets 8.1 l/100km (29 mpg) with 253 lb-ft of torque

    Check out the build
Wow! It bears some resemblance to a Tacoma. I might actually be interested in a diesel one.
