It wouldn't matter to me what it looks like and what features it has... it's a GM and until they prove they can build a good truck, I'm not biting. Was talking to my neighbor the other day who just got rid of his Colorado... engine threw a rod, electrical problems... was a complete pile of crap. I have to reason to think this truck will be any better... I would have to wait at least three years to have data on it...

Are you referring to the 25 year partnership with GM and Toyota at Nummi?

understood... i'm implying that's short term thinking if you're planning on keeping it for 100-200K miles as I don't trust gm's to hold up without expensive repairs.

Funny how the Tacoma outsells the Frontier, Ridgeline, Colorado, Canyon, and Titan combined

We are looking at purchasing/ordering a red Z71 Colorado DCSB this spring with a few options on it for about 38K taxes in out the door. The dealer has agreed to that price until May 31 and will roll any additional discounts that come up into that price as well. That's only slightly more expensive than what I paid for my TRD Sport DCLB Tacoma.

My point, and it is true in Canada at least, is that GM is not willing to move as far on these trucks as they will for there full sized cousins. Just because you can snag a full sized Chevy for 6-10K less than the MSRP doesn't mean the dealer will come even close to that on a Colorado. We could order a Silverado in exactly the same trim level for 5K more than we are pricing the Colorado out for and the financing would be slighty better but my wife wants a small truck so...

The Colorado/Canyon is still rolling out onto the lot. It's a little early to judge the sales numbers. There's only 2-3 at most on the local lots at any one time and usually they're those SLE loaded packages that no one but your Grandma wants. That's definitely hurting sales around here. I haven't seen a Z71 on the lot yet.

Our local Toyota always has 5-10 Tacoma's ready for homes. At least half of those are the ever popular TRD Sport trim.

^That would've been true in Sept. The Colorado/Canyon have had three full months of sales now.

Maybe, but I'm arguing the lot presence of the truck isn't nearly as high as it is with the Tacoma, Frontier, or Ridgeline. That will hamper those walk up impulse sales that make up a good chunk of all vehicle sales.

I agree, but lot time isn't the same thing as lot presence. If I put 15 Tacoma's on lot and they last for 15 days and only 5 GM twins's and they last on the lot for 15 days that isn't the same thing. All I'm saying is I'll have a lot more faith in the numbers come March than I do in the numbers from December. I didn't even see a Colorado up here in Canada until the beginning of December.

Plus, like I said, locally the models showing up on lot locally have been coming with SLE trims (low end trim) with a ton of options driving up the price. People don't want to buy a lower end truck with a decked out interior when they can have a fully equipped higher end model for almost the same price.

That's not true across the US. I've been keeping an eye on the lots and I've seen a total of 5 on the lot in these 3 months (2 that haven't sold).

It's not possible to sell a vehicle that isn't on the lot... This is the same type of bullshit that made SWB, Timberland Mica and Spruce Mica the worst selling colors while silver dominated. You can't sell them if dealerships won't stock them.

Apparently the timing chain problems were caused by a supplier quality issue, exasperated by extended oil change intervals, and fixed after 2010-2011. And that was the LLT engine. The LFX engine used in GM models from 2012 onwards is an evolved design with a bunch of changes everywhere including redesigned heads, so I wouldn't lump them all together.

Greater supply - each truck takes longer to sell. If you put 15 GM twins on the lot, they'll probably spend 30 days on lot.
