Good point. In my case I never really noticed anything. My Tacoma sits the same as my '02 4Runner did so I never noticed any "problem" other than the damn anti-whiplash headrests that showed up in recent years.

Looks offset to the right an inch. However that affords both arms equal space on each armrest. I can fully wrap the wheel with either arm rested. ergonomically not annoying for me.

Just go drive a 4 banger for a while, then hop in the v6. I think the would sell more Tundras if the offered a manual, I know I would have considered it, can you even find the v8 manual trans in the full size let alone the mid.

Committed TW poster right here. I have to comment on this post as it made me crack up. So I read the post questioning the centering, then read this post and thought oh nice he verified/answered the question with some photos. Then I remembered that I was already in this thread this morning, so I checked to see how long it to to respond, 5 minutes. All I can say is committed TW member.

The only full size manual that I could find was a 2500 Cummins Ram...

And about that 4banger.... I don't think trucks should ever have less than 6 cylinders (personal opinion).

Also, I would like to reiterate that I don't WANT or NEED a full size. The Dakotas had a 5.9l V8 in the 2wd R/T model and a 4.7l V8 in the 4x4 SLT model. If they can do it, Toyota definitely can. Have you seen how much room is in the 3rd gen engine bay?

Ability to do something and having enough potential market to justify the costs of doing so are two different things.

Not to mention the CAFE standards keep getting tighter too.

That 4.7 V8 got 17 mpg hwy and my 3.5 V6 is getting 16.5 average hwy.... I'm pretty sure that Toyota can make a newer V8 that can beat those numbers or at least not go any lower.

I did agree on the 4banger trucks, small and mid size are fine. Like you said Dakotas had. Would I like a v8 in my mid size, hells ya, maybe when I am ready to trade this one in I'll get a v8 access cab. Just don't think I'll see it.

Buy a Tacoma. If you don't like it, you can say I was wrong.

I too think a small displacement V8 with cylinder deactivation would do quite well.

Cylinder deactivation has its own problems. That's why Toyota went the Atkinson route.

Are you willing to pay Tundra price for a Tacoma? That's what will happen with a V8 in a Taco.

Lexus has a 5.0 litre Atkinson V8. Tune it for truck duty and drop it in with a 8 speed transmission. That would be awesome.
