Driveline hell! My old 1998 24v Cummins was so loud I couldn't tell if a mariachi band was playing in the back.

There are a few threads here in the forums describing loose "u" bolts, low transmission fluid, low differential fluid, whicheck is possible cause of howling noise a lot of owners are complaining about. Just what I read here and the profession I am in, I see 20 of these trucks everyday and communicate with their owners. Trucks from all 3 generations.

I don't consider myself a millennial but I'm in that age bracket. I fully agree with you on all your points of being a millennial. A good dog is trained by the owner to listen and obey. The millennial generation were told they were special and babied by their parents, teachers and older generations. Majority of the blame should really be on the older generation for poor parenting and leadership.

Anyway go with the Tacoma because its just better and most of the "issues" are just complaints.

Majority of the blame should really be for poor parenting and leadership. SO True. I hope that folks realize what has happened and make the needed adjustments. THe other issue is how much parenting has the screen done? How much influence does Youtube have?

Well, like three run found out, it is. Now, whether it bothers you ar not is a different story. My guess is since you never noticed it, it doesn't bother you. I noticed it the second I sat in one.

But I also noticed this- the center rest and the drivers door rest are uniform in height and the drivers door rest is comfortably wide.

So driving 4-8 or 5-7 is very comfortable.

Can't remember if the taco was similar..

I looked at the Canyons before finally settling for a Tacoma, and honestly the only reason I'd go with the Canyon is the diesel option. Went with the Tacoma because if you remember right, people liked the old Colorado and Canyons a lot at first too until a few years later everyone realized what pieces of shit they were. Granted that was in GM's dark years that drove them into bankruptcy and their vehicles have improved, but you know what hasn't changed about Tacomas? Their reliability. The canyon has nicer options and like I said I love the diesel option, but fact of the matter is do I think I could keep that truck and drive it for 15-20 years? I don't know, and I'd say more likely than not the answer is no. Can I keep my Tacoma for 15-20 years? Probably so. Don't let the fancy options distract you, if you're looking to get a truck that will last and get you wherever you want to go the answer is Tacoma.

i don't know how people can compare the canyon and the tacoma. canyons (and rangers, xterras, dakotas) handle like shopping carts. nothing matches the feel of driving my icon equipped tacoma down a dirt road.

I took my SLT Dakota off roading and thought she did really well.... but the taco is still a bit better. But in the 'Kota's defense, she was set up for towing and had torsion bar front suspension...

My research two years ago when looking for a new truck came to these two contenders. Always wanted a taco...drove ford chevs though, knew them for what they where. I ended up with taco cause one resale two manual option with any package...colorado hurt my feelings that day i found out stick option only in base model...fn joke. Third...wanted change and my taco dream. Drove a new taco and fell in love simple as that. But i was close to getting a new 2016 silverado...price was the only thing that scared me away

This is probably a pretty flawed way to go about choosing a new car. There are so many variables that contribute to the data that you're looking at. I'd say the best way to use any data and opinions is that it'll give you an idea of things that you might be unhappy with, but certainly take that info with a grain of salt. Armed with that info, go test drive both and pay close attention to those things. Does the engine feel too under powered for you? can you live with how the transmission shift? At the end of the day, choose the one that best fits your needs and the one you like the best. If you buy the one that you enjoy driving the most, you'll be happiest.
